    Default Fuel line help

So next up on the agenda is to run all my new fuel lines for the car. Seeing as I've never worked with braided fuel line or fuel lines in general I figured I'd start a thread to get advice and help to walk me through the process. I will be using 6 an braided fuel line and fittings. I will be running the line from the sender to a holley black which will be mounted on the outside of the wheel well towards front of car. I was told I don't need to run a return line because I'm using a holley black( this is right from a holley tech) so I might just cap the return for now and see how it runs. So first up is I need to do hard line to -an on my stock fuel sender. I've been told that I need to cut the flare off the sender to add a compression fitting. Just want to make sure this is right before I cut it off. Also I take it that the bigger tube is the main fuel tube and the smaller one is the return? Pic of the stock sender on my tank.

The bigger line is always the supply, smaller is always the return. Kind of like the intake valve is always bigger than exhaust valve.
Your flares look different than mine
i was able to find adapter fittings

Anybody know, can you use a return style pressure regulator and just plug the return side if your not using it? Would like to have the option to run a return if I find I'm going to need it and not have to buy another regulator

I believe so, I hooked mine up because I am using stock 86 fuel pump with a carb. My guess is pump needs to keep pumping fuel in a loop. If pressure has no where to go something gotta give.

Fuel pumps in tank continuously run while car is running.

So you are using the Holley black fuel pump? Which is external? Is this a carb or EFI?
Like was said, I don’t know if a return style regulator can be run that way.
Return style regulator bleeds off extra pressure and sends it back to tank.

I did see that some of the coyote and ls swap guys use a corvette fuel filter that has the regulator built in. So the return line is really short and only one supply line goes up to the motor.

The pressure on that setup is kinda high tho, so not sure if it would work for your setup

Yes im running a holley black which is external and it's a carb setup. I think I'm just going to buy a return style regulator and run a return line. It's not that hard to do it's just a little added cost in extra hose and fittings. Might save headaches down the road.

When we installed my regulator a friend of mine made an adapter out of aluminium to connect stock fuel lines on the bottom and an lines on top. Adapter is bolt to frame rail. My regulator is holly 820. For carb or efi.

Ok, so I take it your running stock mechanical fuel pump? So where the lines come in on the drivers side of the engine bay you have that adapter then ran hose and an fittings to the regulator? I'm reading that if your not using high pressure or high pressure pumps you don't need a return line. Did you run a return because you were having problems? Also what is the rubber line that is connected to the top of the regulator for?

I am running stock 86 fuel pump, my friend cut my fuel lines around the frame area and attached them to the adapter. Not sure how he did it, but will ask. The adapter is rectangle in shape and is drill all the way through and tapped at one end for an fittings. The black hose us for vacuum.

Ok, you running stock carb? You mind taking some pics of the fuel line hook up for me. Just want to see how it's done and what fitting to use.

I am running a Quick Fuel 750, have no Idea what size fittings he used. Personally I don't like how close it is to the header. Might bring some composite from work to use as heat shield or look in speedway connectors and redo it, but for now it works. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pics, should help. Could you grab a couple of your carb and how your lines attach to the carb? Although if your running a quick fuel it will most likely hook up different than my stock holley.

Why would you want to run a return line?
Unless your planning on going to FI its a waste of time, money, and one more place running fuel the length of the car....
Where do you live, and where did you have your headers ceramic coated?

Hey ragtopjr, I'm just going off what I read as I'm just learning all this. If I dont need a return I won't run one. It will save me some cash. Just read it's easier on pump and you can avoid vapor lock problems.

You running a in line electric pump? If so where did you mount it? If you have some pics that would be helpful.

My headers are not ceramic coated , I'm running bbk shorties so you must be referring to someone else in this thread. I'm from Regina
