They were edlbrock for a 302, a friens of mine said it might be possible to aluminium weld and resurface, not dure it's possible may cist more or nagging feeling when will weld let go.

If it is welded properly, It should never let go.

Judging by the corrosion alone looks like that head has more problems than just the screw issue.
been there done that! cracked my block # 6 cylinder back in my original 84 mustang back in 84. mine was a wood screw and I still dont know where it came from.
I had a nut fall into the carb on my 76 Capri. At first it was bouncing around by one of valves, randomly making the car run like crap. Eventually, the nut made it past the valve and cracked the piston, cylinder wall, and head. The nut was squished to less than half its thickness. I still have that nut on my key chain as a reminder of my bad mistakes.
