Default 1979 Cobra all original 10500 miles

I have for sale a 1979 barn find Cobra. Reccaro seats in great shape! Minor paint work needed. 0 rust. currently working on restoring. have it sitting on 15" turbine wheels right now with brand new Cooper Cobra tires. Have original wheels and tires wheels are a 9.5 out of 10 tires are shot. Automatic trans 5.0L. Original spark plugs and wires and brakes. Original everything except battery and oil and filter. All I've done is buff original paint, minor paint touch up with an airbrush and re tapped some of the original rubber molding back on as it was curling up. Radio works AC needs charged. Car is clean as can be expected for an original survivor. Hood needs a new graphic and might need painted or a better buff I didnt want to go to far as not super familiar with single stage. Asking 12500 OBO. Will have pictures soon as I figure this out. If interested can text pictures to you.

These pictures are before the new tires and buffing and touch up. Car is now shined up not show car shiny but has a gloss to it. The glue from the decal has been removed from the hood. I tried to save the decal but it literally fell off with just a simple squirt of water. front bumper has been touched up just enough to hide the black spots where time took its toll. I do not know how far to go with restoring anything. I do not want to take away from the cars value. It really is a great drive. I was thinking about trying to paint below the rubber to make that look better. it wont take any shine at all. If i paint it does it lose its survivor/original status. if my price is high im sorry not trying to be a jerk i cant find anything else like this to compare it to. the miles are 10500 original, not 110500. no rust. if anyone is interested in giving me advice or would like to help me with pricing i will gladly listen.

I don't think the lower section is supposed to be glossy. Anyway, very nice cobra!

Please post the door tag and buck tag. The Recaro seats are not original to the car. Only the Pace Car had Recaro seating in 1979. Recaro seating was not available in any other 1979 Mustang, or 1979 Capri.

No it was not an option in 1979. Only the Pace Car had Recaro seating in 1979. It was not optional/available in any other 1979 Mustang or Carpi. Same for front air damn with foglamps and rear three-piece spoiler, which this car correctly has neither.

Recaro seating in 1979 was code 'UA'. Per the door tag for this car it had seating code 'PA' originally. Code 'P' seating in 1979 was cloth & vinyl with low-back front buckets.

hate to tell you but you are wrong. I know the original owner. He has passed away or I would have him type this. they were an option. I even used to work for the dealership it was sold from

Recaro seating was not a factory option in any 1979 Capri or Mustang. Your door tag even shows INT TRIM code "PA", which is not Recaro seating.

These are "P" code 1979 seats. That is what your car had originally from the factory, in black of course.

Maybe it was a late year option after the pc came out. Would not be in 79 dealer brochure, like the pace car was not.
Especially when the car was a late build 6/79 after pc was introduced.
My 93 Ranger is 8/93 build and had 1994 on the factory spark plug wires. 1994 changeover parts on a 1993.

Is the back seat Recaro pattern?
Early on, could have swapped out after purchase but very expensive. Either way, door data plate code is fixed.
Or had dealer connections. The dealer installed parts. Wont show up on marti report.
Used car lot or body shop sometimes would change out stuff and sell that off thru the parts dept.
The special addition to the sales books, like hidden options not many knew about. GM did that a lot.
As if a car came in with wrong seats or buyer requested change as part of purchase.
Different tires, radio, add intermittent wipers, send out for sunroof or Ziebart.
Swap seats, resell the new pa seats to body shop or used car as damage replacement parts. Rare but possible.
Mine has Ford Superseal plugs (Ziebart). Not on any invoice, window sticker, tags, or its Marti.

Another one. Seen this factory 4 speed Ford station wagon in person. 1 of 1. Not in the dealer brochure for sure.
Is documented and was special ordered with approval from high up.
    https://bringatrailer.com/listing/19...ountry-squire/

Noticed hood ornament is different. Mine had tri bar colors with horse.
The chrome plastic doors are painted black like mine (have oe chrome ones stored).
Worked at Detroit dealer? Mine was shipped to Stark Hickey East on Gratiot 10/78, purchased 1980 from Roy O'Brien.
My car has TT on buck, had glossy lower black paint. RA option paint was different looking due to underlying texture.
All 79 Cobras had black rockers. TT was stamped even on all black cars like mine, which would have had black rockers anyway.

Worked at dealers too back in the 70's (VW parts dept). Am sure other brand dealers do the same.
Lots of odd things happened cant explain or recall. Body shop parts, customer requests out of the ordinary.
Special orders, otc to service area or body shop install. The dealer installed mods would not appear on data or msrp sticker list.
Like dealer installed a/c. Certain 60's muscle cars had headers, intake in trunk. Factory parts not installed in factory.
Not everything is or was written in stone. Especially the exact hour and day of running changeovers.

Recaro seating was "new for 1980" for both the Capri and Mustang. Says that right in the 1980 model year facts books and showroom brochures.

Picture of the dash showing the odometer needed
Picture of engine compartment also needed.

Pictures of the undercarriage would be nice, may or may not prove the cars mileage. Same with all period documentation.

As for the seats, OP, sorry, you are incorrect, if you believe otherwise, spend the money have have a Marti Report pulled. Of course we already know, it will show the same as the buck tag, which is what the assembly line used, along with various paper copies of same to build the car as it made it's way down the line in 1979.

Technically, they were 'standard' in 79 PC.

They were optional in more than just Cobra in 80 and 81, and GT in 82.

Bill, I will post the dash with odometer and the engine compartment and undercarriage very soon. Right now I have the car masked off so I can touch up some of the black trim pieces. I “KNOW” the seats were not an early option but were available in the Cobra and also very late built Capri in the model year 1979. This car is “ALL” correct. Not one change has been made from the factory except for oil filter and wheels and tires. I also have in my possession an all original 1982 4 speed GT 3400 original miles. Needs paint but is rust free as well and runs strong. Original everything except starter solenoid and again the oil filter. The guy would buy a car every few years. These were parked in the back of his property and left. I also purchased a 2004 Mach 1 with 6500 original miles. The guy was just weird he’d buy em and park em and never look at them again. He passed away unfortunately and they new I was a bit of a car guy and offered them to me at a fair price for their condition. I hauled them home on a trailer washed 30 years of dirt away removed old gas added a battery and new oil and they all started right up. I will post pictures of the 82 Name: image.jpg

Forgot the keys are in the cobra sorry I was excited to show the Odom on that the interior is just black but everything on the inside is absolutely mint. Power windows and locks dome light that swivels around (I’m told that often is not in those because they break.)

The INT TRIM code on your door tag is "PA". That is not the code for black Recaro seats. Those Recaro seats were not ordered or installed at the factory. Maybe by the dealer or the owner. Not by the factory.

    Was thinkin
Scenero- Ford dealer lot June 1979.
Has two new 1979 Mustangs for sale parked side by side.
1979 Mustang Pace car, Recaro seats, black with cloth.
1979 Mustang Cobra, Yellow, PA code seats which are black w/cloth.
Salesmen hungry. End of the month. Bonus if meets sales quota or can hit 'x' amount of sales.

Car buyer stops in to look at PC and Cobra. Salesman smells sure money, Serious, no window shopper.
    Customer test drives both cars.
Likes the PC more, but not the seats. Too much op art, uncomfortable, hard to slide into, whatever.
Likes the lo back cloth seats in the Cobra much better, but still wants the PC.
Wants to have a car by weekend. No desire to order one.

Salesman says "What would it take to get you to take home the PC today?
Customer says " Swap the seats. Lo backs from the Cobra into the PC and you have a deal".
Salesman says "Sign the paperwork and its a done deal. Pick it up tomorrow. PC will have the Cobra PA seats.
We will then install the Recaros in the Cobra. It will sell fine with them.
Pick car up tomorrow or Friday. Will take a few hours to do. Will call when done".
So the PC winds up with customer's preferred seats out of the Cobra. Cobra gets the PC Recaros.
No changes to any door codes or sticker, paperwork, other than the special request in writing.
A little more involved than better floor mats, but less tech work than say dealer adding cruise control.

We used to swap new radios all the time. No big deal. Could be even up, part of a deal, or added charge.
Some customers wanted certain color car on lot and radio with cassette but car only had am/fm.
After swap, codes would then be wrong from factory since mods were done later at dealer.
Not gonna make up a new window sticker, change the door code, or buck for that.
New cars can have incorrect window stickers.

Depends how the car was ordered by the dealer. Parts dept has popular accessories in stock or could order them.
If dealer choice of trans, engine, paint combo, on in stock car, was wrong (and choice is offered) either take it or leave it.
Customer ordered car would have correct parts listed and coded and has to wait for it to be built.

Here is another yellow 79 Cobra with PA trim, owned by JTs Bikes. A few shots of the P code seat seats in (A) black on the first page.

And at the bottom of page 6 is a shot of PA seats in Rex_Arturus' 79 Cobra.

I'm going to weigh in, not as a fox chassis expert but as a lifelong dealership tech. I have swapped interior parts at every brand of dealer I have worked at. Money is king, no matter what. I have swapped complete interiors, dash to door panels, headliner to carpet in some cars if the interior colour isn't available with a particular paint code. I believe gr79 is right. There is no update required to the vin if you do it. BMW is the only company I have worked for that would note the changes. We have to program into the car what we changed so there are no warranty payment or order issues when something inevitably goes wrong. I don't know how this effects the value of the cobra but when I interior swapped 2 bmw 750i's we sold the doner as "special". Hope this helps
