For a few years, I've been trying to figure out a urine smell in one corner of the garage. We even set out mouse traps and ended up catching two moles. The problem area is right at one end of the work bench, which pretty much goes across the entire length of the back wall.

I thought maybe there was some transmission fluid spilled... maybe even soaked into the wood bench, since I've worked on several t5's right in that area. But the smell never dissipates.

While reading about friction modifiers tonight, I came across a post with people complaining about the stench of Ford XL-3 friction modifier. One guy claimed that he stored a bottle in several ziploc bags and it still stunk the place up. It then dawned on me that my smelly corner just so happens to have a couple bottles of it sitting on the shelf. I went out and checked and sure enough, that was it. I've been using it for years and never really paid attention to the smell...partly because I don't have a good sense of smell, but mostly because I just associated bad gear oil smell with the gear oil itself.
