Default Aero dash cluster to 86 Marquis fuel sending unit?

Can anyone confirm or deny, that there's a difference in resistance values between the aero era fuel sending unit, and the fuel sending unit from my 86? I have signal, but it just doesn't seem quite right. Thanks!

So you have the sender from the 86 wagon installed?
What is the dash out off?

Not sure about the Marquis, but in regards to the Mustangs.

1979-1986 Mustang Fuel Level Sending Unit Ohm Readings are approximately 73 ohms empty and approximately 10 ohms full.

1987-1997 Mustang Fuel Level Sending Unit Ohm Readings are approximately 22 ohms empty and approximately 145 ohms full.

My info (extracted from this site) shows:

    '83-86 CFI/EFI fuel senders: 80 empty - 10 full
    '87-'93 EFI fuel senders: 10 empty - 165 full
    '79-86 carbed fuel sender: 60-86 empty - 8-12 full
    Airtex E2145S fuel sender: ~84 empty - ~8 full

However, the Airtex does not work any near correctly in my '78 Fairmont, so, Real Soon Now, I plan on purchasing and installing:

That would explain my problem. I'm getting about 8-9 at full, and if I hook it in to the gauge one way, it sweeps the gauge in the right direction but not accurately, and if I hook it in another way it sweeps the opposite direction and is way off too. I was hoping to just add or subtract some resistance to get it close-ish, but it looks like I need to swap out either the sender or the gauge. Or maybe just mount a fuel cell and call it good...

The sending unit is the 86 merc., I'm assuming. The dash is what ya'll are calling the aero style, I think it's 87+.

Does anyone know if the 86 sender (with in tank pump), has the same mounting style/dimensions as the 87+ senders? I know the 87+ doesn't have the fuel in/outs like the 86, but I can fix that. I'm running a big ol' external fuel pump, so I don't use the in tank pump anyways.

    OK
I was unfamiliar with what Aero meant.
    Thanks
