    Default End of offroad pipes?

If you look on LMR and other Mustang parts supplier websites, you might notice that all/most of the offroad h-pipes/x-pipes are out of stock or discontinued. Ebay still has some BBK offroad midpipes in stock, but those look limited as well.

I just ordered a BBK offroad x-pipe for my 82gt. I wasn't planning on going ahead and ordering it, because that's just another part in the way and I doubt I'll need it for a few months. But I'm afraid they'll all be gone by then.

So if you were thinking about ordering one, you might jump on it. I read online where the epa is cracking down on this sorta thing.

I just picked up a stainless off road h-pipe from Jegs two weeks ago. The stainless one is out of stock, but the aluminized version is still in stock. https://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/30600/10002/-1

There is no reason to have an off road H pipe on anything with license plates these days. Been that way for quite a while. No, I am not the emissions police. Yes, I actually own 2 cars that don't have converters on them. They were both built that way almost 30 years ago. I also own a Blown Terminator with 500 RWHP built 10 years ago that DOES have a 50 state high flow Magnaflow Cat X pipe on it. When I built my GT Turbo in 2013, I bought a high flow cat for it and installed it and have pictures to prove it. In April I sold a brand new unused "off-road" Fox H pipe for $60 and was glad to get it.

The damn hellcat has 800+ HP with cats. The GT500 is 700+, GT350 is 500+. Do you (not talking to anyone in particular, just "you" as a generic reader. Not intended for Broncojunkie. After all, we are from the same home town so we have to stick together. ) really think your little street driven push rod 5.0 is restricted with modern-day cats? Is that really what is keeping you out of the 9's in the quarter? Were converters from the '80s restrictive? Absolutely. It's 2020.

Most likely reason for the drop in availability of Off-Road H pipes is the trade war with China. I would be willing to bet 90% of the exhaust products comes from overseas.

When things return to normal, parts will be back in stock.

I still think Homer is on to something. I bought catted h pipes for my car because, well, why not? I sit behind cars spewing crap all the time and hate it. Sure, a well tuned carb shouldn't suck, but I can count the number of well tuned carbs (for street driving) I have been around with one finger. People with asthma didn't ask to inhale our badly tuned motors, and it really does hurt them. And it ain't good for the rest of us either.

Yep, agree, has to be a China thing. SMR makes them in the USA. Cheaper too.

I've heard it's the 'rona. Retailers are going through their stocks, and factories have been closed, so it's harder to replenish.

Count me among those adding cats back to their cars. I don't like the loud exhaust exhaust as much as I used to, and I just don't care about sticking it to the man that much anymore.

My 79 cobra I'm getting ready to start working on will have cats and tame mufflers. Offroad pipe on my pace car, but mainly because I had it lying around.

LMR was out of them several months ago, I noticed. It was before the scamdemic.

SMR pipe is the 4 piece type. Not sure if that makes a difference. Easier to install, for sure.

I passed emissions at 291k moles before I moved to a non emissions county. Car always had a rattle at idle that drove me nuts. Pulled the tail pipe off and replaced it and guess what rolled out of the cat? About a golf ball sized peice of honeycomb. Rattle went away after that.

I'm all for emissions, but I don't see the poont of dropping hundreds of dollars on something that a high mileage worn out v-8 doesn't need to get better emissions then any car made after 1996 couldn't pass anyways.

That one work with a 351W?

As for cats. If I start my 59 T-bird one less time (which emission wise is probably about equal to my catless EFI TUNED foxes running all year, usually way less than 1000 miles each), can I call it even??

Nothing like a fox body with 2 Chambers and offroad H pipe...I’ve had every combo possible and nothing sounds as perfect.
