Thanks!
Thanks!
It took me a bit but I got the driver side frame rail screwed in! Before I weld them in I'll bolt on the k-member and triple check all my measurements. Once I get that done and rebuild the lower portion of the strut tower I'll move onto the handful of small spots on the floorboard.
I bolted in my K-member and checked the measurements. Broke out the laser level and checked my rails from side to side, front to back. I closed my garage door so the laser showed up in the pictures better. It's hard to hold the tape straight and trying to click a pic...LOL! Everything measured what it did before tore it all out so I'll be doing all of my spot welds and then fabricating the strut tower pieces.
A couple more pics of laser. When I set the laser up for measuring I marked the floor where the feet were so it was pretty quick and easy to put it back in the same spot. I left the laser on the tripod and set it in the back of my garage so all I had to do was match the feet to the floor and make minor adjustments.
"Fab"tastic job right there! Loving the progress!

I'm always amazed at the ways and the scale of the rust you can find on these cars.
Well I got the passenger side tower and frame rail pretty much done. Where I had the slight gap between the rail and fabricated tower lower section I just ran some self-tapping screws and and pulled them to within about 1/8" and I welded across the gap. I also welded a gap between the small piece of sheet metal to close the hole on the side of the tower to the frame rail. I dressed it all to make it look nicer. Here are a couple pics. Onto finishing the driver side strut tower!
Well I got the driver side tower pretty much done, only one small plate left where the frame cap meets the tower. I'll fab that up dress it all nice and hit it with primer. Anyone have any experience with seam sealer?
Well, I've got the rails in, towers fixed, and a little prime & paint. I should have waited to sand all the engine bay before painting but like a kid I just had to get a look with some paint. I've got the wheel wells black and the bay will be silver with black K-member but I'm wondering if I should paint the wheel wells silver too. I also cleaned and sanded the k-member and sprayed it.
A few more pics.
Nice work and nice mig welding! Should be plenty strong when you are finished!

Looks real nice compared to what you started with. Just one question, you going to replace the sway bar brackets before you paint it? Maybe I missed one of your posts.....

Well I'm waiting on struts for the front before I can install the front suspension so I figured I'd get on the rear floor where I had saw "a bit" of rust. I had to cut out a bit more than I thought and I'll have to do this to both sides. One positive is the sound deadening in the hatch area came off easily and it's pretty dang clean!
P.S. If anyone has some 85 front sway bar bushing brackets I need them! Shoot me a PM! Thanks!
Got the front suspension bolted in and ready for some new rotors. I bought new a-arms, SVE lowering springs, isolators, SVE caster / camber plates but I refurbished the factory spindles and a-arm and steering rack bolts / nuts. Those turned out nice.
Not a lot of progress in the past few months with life going on! Here's the steering rack mounted, bump kit and rotors.
