While teaing out the oe carpet to replace, i notice the dreaded fb crack. It is only an inch long, should i just weld a patch plate and seal the area?

I assume you mean a crack on the drive side floor board near the rear seat bolts. If that is the case, then YES you can often just weld the crack up properly and be fine. A quality set of full length subframe connectors such as Maximum Motorsports would be my first recommendation rather than a patch plate. If you don't want to go the SFC route, then consider mimicking the reinforcement plate that Ford did on the later model Fox Bodies to reinforce that section of the floor pan. Good luck!
