    Default No alternator warning light?

    Hi All

I just installed a new alternator in my 86 5.0 LX and it wont charge, one of the troubleshooting tips I read stated that if the alternator warning light bulb is burnt out the exiter circuit wont tell the alternator to charge. I dont have that idiot light-just an analog guage.. there is also a resistor in tandom with that bulb, cant find that either.. anyone ever dealt with this?

    First, Welcome to the Forum!

    Second, where's the car p0rn?
We want pictures of the car!
    We want car p0rn!
Actually, *I* mostly like bashing on other people that also have a Porno Red interior.

    On to the tech:
    Check out the following thread:

Also, unless you're going to junk that car, or have 500 zillion dollars to spend having a mechanic do the work, then get the Ford Dealer Service Manual for an '86 Mustang.
    They are often on ebay.
Also, try to get the manuals in print, that are in those pdf files.
Imho, if you're going to whine about the price of the manuals or tools, then bug off and pay $150+/hour labor, plus full parts cost, to a mechanic.

Btw, post picture of alternator, wiring, and post link to the alternator that you're using.

Don't worry about how the car looks. Not everybody has a show car.
My car is summer daily driver. It's also convinced that its super hero secret identity is a construction work hauling F150. :-)

    Good Luck!

If it were me, I would use a volt meter and check for continuity from the alternator to the gauge. Then check continuity from the gauge to the battery.
Then at least you will know which side of the circuit to investigate.

Note, I don't have any ties, nor do I make/imply any promises, about any items listed.
If the items are in fact Decepticons, and they transform to eat you, then that's your problem. :-O

    ^^^ good advice right here
A proper wiring manual can take the guesswork out of some of the wiring and save time and headaches.
