Thread: Roof skin

    Default Roof skin

After like ten years of procrastinating and not having anywhere to do the work I finally removed the skin. Now need to remove the donor skin, but I need to finesse it a little more as not to ruin it. Here's pics because I never can find them online.Name: IMG_20200528_224512.jpg

Good Work! Swapping a roof skin is not difficult overall, but extremely time consuming and monotonous.

I thought I posted photos of the work replacing Erratic50's roof skin, but maybe we didn't. Good Luck!

OH! I will give you one trick I figured out with the Fox roof skins. Since they are prone to "tin canning" due to the lack of support and the large expanse of metal. Once you have it spot welded in place, use your favorite sound deadening mat to cover the underside of the roof before moving forward with any body work. The extra thickness of the mat will help to stiffen the roof panel which makes it easy to sand and bodywork if needed without the "tin canning" and possibility of adding extra body work. Also helps to quiet the car down too! Good Luck!

    EDIT:

    I knew I did, starting with post #219 http://vb.foureyedpride.com/showthre...(clone-)/page9

Thanks for the tip! Did you use sealant? It looks like there's some hardened stuff towards the front of the car.

We did use some sealant at strategic points to assure everything sealed up. Replaced all the seam sealer in the roof/hatch area to make sure everything looked new and was sealed properly. Evercoat All Metal for the sail panel areas and the front A pillar posts rather than OEM lead. Easier to work, great durability and none of the health hazards of the original lead. Other than that, your typical weld, then weld, then weld some more.

adding to an old post, haven't done anything with the roof. moved on to the rotted out door jamb on the drivers side. Is there an easier way to post images here? I cant remember anymore.

Started on passenger frame rail, decided I had to replace whole strut tower. PO already replaced one over 15 years ago and they cut almost 2 inches of the original strut tower out.Name: IMG_20210412_151418.jpg
