The only thing in the pictures that looks off to me is the pressure plate 'fingers'. Maybe someone else will chime in on this but they look too deep within the pressure plate.

If that's the case, I wonder if the pressure plate is bad, or if something is jammed all kittywampus in there...

You don't have enough travel left for the fork. You need a longer pivot ball for the fork or an adjustable one. The fork should be just about touching the back of the opening in the bellhousing. Or you need a thicker throw out bearing. Maybe the fork isn't the correct one either.
So with the fork at the rear of its opening, the throwout bearing should be touching or near touching the pressure plate fingers?

It usually works best to set it up so the fork puts itself at the back of the slot when the cable is off then use the cable to dial in just a little bit of preload
Sometimes all it takes is two guys putting their heads together. Thanks Jeremiah!
We got the firewall adjuster into the sweet spot, and the sloppy feel in the pedal turned out to be loose bolts on the firewall adjuster. No pulling of transmissions today!

Thanks. Jeremiah deserves as much of the credit! Now, if I could just get some free time so I can put the car on the road.

Took it down the road today for a short drive. It's doing this thing where it slowly slides out of gear when I'm cruising in 5th. So, that's not good. One would think maybe the clutch cable needs to be loosened for that reason? Maybe? But it's still kind of hard to put in gear too. So it's still not engaging OR disengaging all the way, for all the damn sense that makes. I'm just so sick of fighting with this damn car.

Does the shifter have stop bolts?
Cale
Yes, but they're adjusted so that it still goes all the way into the gates (as far as it wants to and then stops), but it will stop it from going beyond.

It might not be a bad idea to check how the stop is in 5th gear specifically. 5th doesn't usually get abused like 2nd and 3rd do. When my car had a t5, it liked to pop out of 2nd gear unless I held the shifter firmly when I let off the throttle even after I rebuilt it. Leading up to rebuilding it, it was grinding going into 2nd. I believe I may have damaged the slider or locking toothing on 2nd gear prior to rebuilding it. It was also the first manual I ever rebuilt. Something like this may be going on, but it just isn't as likely as it is in the fun gears.

These are the hilariously revised instructions Pro 5.0 sends with their shifters. This method works well for me.
Cale
so what was the outcome with it? I have the same MM pedal thing but is it worth it to instll it

Yeah, rechecking the stops would be worthwhile.
That pedal height adjuster is just seeming counterproductive at this point. It gives you less pedal travel, when if anything I need more! It didn't fix the pedal slop problem, so I think I might take it out, at the very least for now.
I'm just wondering if shimming the pivot ball is going to get my shift fork to the back of the opening and then give it enough travel to engage and disengage all the way!

Tension the cable until the clutch releases too high then back it off a little. See if the not wanting to go into gear goes away
Back off the stops entirely and see if it stops popping out of 5th
10-4 should have some car time tomorrow!

Brad, I think the clutch disengagement issues isn't related to the cable adjustment. While I was there I noted some flex in the firewall around the firewall adjuster, which is also causing the initial 'spongy' feeling in the pedal.
