Does the outer plastic shell of the dash come off of the metal dash frame? Can it be removed with dash in place? I want to expose as much wiring as possible, and still keep it together enough to test drive it. Thanks!

The metal frame does separate from the plastic dash hull. The problem is that the metal is set in place in the plastic dash hull and attached with screws and hardware. Then all the wiring, HVAC duct work, etc. is installed. No way that I am aware of to remove the plastic and do what you are attempting. Sorry!

Hmm. This may be another "hold my beer" moment. Or maybe another "I told you so, dumbass!" moment. We'll see shortly...
I separated my metal frame from my dash, but I probably had it out of the car. I don't remember.

I have taken several Four Eyed dashes apart recently, but it's been awhile since I did an Aero dash, but still fairly certain that many of the screws are installed from the backside of the dash and would be near impossible to remove with the dash in the car. Otherwise that would be the way to swap out the heater core.

No problem! Had to contort myself to get at a few of the screws, but it's out now. No back side fasteners to deal with. Took me about 45 minutes, and 2 cups of coffee.

In all honesty, I'm not sure that it didn't have any back side screws originally. As I tore in to it I noticed how much molestation it had suffered, from being fitted to this car. But for me, it worked.
