    Default Different horns

Has anyone switched out their horns to something from a different model of car? What did you use? Was it relatively the same size as the originals on the foxes? Was it plug and play or did you have to mess around with any connections? My 84 has 2 horns, one inside each fender. I just checked to make sure they both work, but they really aren't loud enough. I appreciate any suggestions, just not wanting air horns or my car to sound like the General Lee or anything obnoxious.

Only one horn on my saleen is currently working which is not loud at all. Been that way since I bought the car. I have an Sn95 horn that I was thinking of installing. Have not got further that thinking about it though LOL. I’ll be watching this thread.

ASC used Stebel Junior air horns and left the Ford one in place unplugged. Stebels are hard to find these days but Anes mad3 a knock off. I recently saw a similar unit at Harbor Freight.

Friend of mine has an 85 ASC vert, I should ask him if he could take a picture. I really don't think I have much of an option with this car aside from removing the old horns and putting something else in their place, lot of add ons to say the least...

All this came about because my friend mustangs4me is selling horns for $5 a piece on here and I'm buying other stuff from him anyways... I thought one of my horns may have not been working, so I had my wife blast them while I was laying under there. She told me those are loud enough... I said yeah sitting in a garage, and hit the horn on her xc90 sitting next to it and really hurt our ears. I have had a few close calls over the years with this car where the horn didn't seem like it was heard.

When my 88 Mustang had a horn burn out (bad wire) I replaced both of them with these..... https://www.autozone.com/safety-and-...-horn/6073_0_0

After install I beeped my 85 Mustang horns and then the 88's.....louder but not overbearing. Simple install.

I put a horn from a current model Fusion on mine. Different connector, yes. But it works well! I like the more modern sound!

    Seriously considering a rear horn.
Not a beeper, a loud regular horn, separate button.
People don't see cars backing out when they are too.
Got hit once like that plus too many close calls.

Luv them train horns. The brassy blaster ones. If i see engines on the move, will stop and watch.
Or steamship warnings to board- leaving very soon. We had some on the D. river. Echoed off the tall buildings downtown.

Had cheapo HF red air horns in the truck. Worked well but the air pumps would not last. Corrosion.
They were for the people that cut off cars, coming off ramps then the 3 lane change for one.
Or the last second exit batman maneuver.

Anyone hear a horn tooting La Cucaracha for Cinco de Mayo today?

My Zephyr only came with horn and it is pretty lame.
I might look into something different
Either that or moving it closer to the front of the car

No La Cucaracha, but it does remind me of a story.

I have a friend who put Dixie horns on his car. One time we were in the Taco Bell drive thru line, 2 or 3 cars back, and the Dixie horns got stuck on. I've never laughed so hard in my life.

    Regarding horns-
my harness has a horn relay.
Stock Zephyr does not have one.
would I need a relay to run 2 horns?
    thanks

    Hahaha drive thru
My Ranger's horn got stuck on too. People staring big time.
Had to pull off the steering wheel cover and yank wires.
Grant aftermarket wheel. Horn never worked right with it.

Added a 2nd stock later model Mustang horn to the car. Now is dual tone. EVTM= no relay
Ranger EVTM= no relay w/o speed control, relay with speed control.
    Both circuits have 20a fuses.
No mods were necessary to add the 2nd Mustang horn other than 12v branch wire to second horn.
From seeing reactions, they work well.

Forklift safety training involves making eye contact when passing others or leaving isles by horn honking.

Is it my imagination or did large cars of the 50's-70's have louder piercing horns?
Could not only hear but feel the sound if standing in front. At a light, scare the people crossing road.
My VW's beep beep horn was good, European polite. Hilos have loud horns 'bout same pitch.
In grade school, we used to get passing trucks to honk their air horns.
That got me into trouble once with my 6th grade teacher.
Suspended from AAA safety patrol crossing guard duty. Embarrassing. Eventually reinstated. Major responsibility lesson retaught.
Close call. AAA patrol members got to go to a MLB ball game field outing at end of year.
    Horns
How ya gonna tell someone in the house to hurry up, or announce arrival, without one? Kids chasing a ball? Passing bicycle riders?
Do they honk in wedding processions anymore?

That’s funny. Thankfully never had my horn get stuck.

I loved this video and the creative use of a horn.

I put the Hella Twin Trumpet horns in my Daughter's Capri. They are european old school sound and very, very loud. For $20 on Amazon, well worth the effort!

I basically cut the mount off the original since disk horn and bolted both horns back to back.

    Hahahaha! That was awesome.

My horn is very important to me too. I'd tried several sets of junkyard horns, but I don't know if something happens to them if they sit unused for too long or what, but I was always having one fail or they were too weak or whatever. I even tried these new "Blazer" horns from The Zone and found them lacking. My Fusion horns cost about the same or less than the Blazer horns and they work awesome. I couldn't be happier with them.

Found some OEM Ford horns out of a crown vic at the local pick 'n pull. Simple plug 'n play. Way more authority than the 'excuse me' sound of the old worn out originals!

I really feel that our nation's roads could benefit from instituting the inland waterway whistle signal system.

1 short blast (Morse E) I am altering course to Starboard (Flag E) / I intend to leave you on my Port side
2 short blasts (Morse I) I am altering course to Port (Flag I) / I intend to leave you on my Starboard (particularly beneficial)
3 short blasts (Morse S) I am operating in reverse (Flag S)
5 short blasts Danger ..or.. Message Not Understood
1 prolonged blast Entering a blind turn or leaving a dock
1 long blast every 2 minutes Power-driven vessel operating in poor visibility
1 long blast + 2 short blasts every 2 minutes Sailing vessel operating in poor visibility (bicycles could use this one)

See? Imagine a world where where driver's greeted each other regularly with a friendly captain's salute of one long and two short.
