Thread: Wood paneling

    Default Wood paneling

Hey all, got a 1981 Fairmont wagon and I’m looking for the exterior wood paneling. Here’s the kicker, I’m in Alaska and not many options up here. Anyone know of a place to get those panels? Considering doing a wood panel vinyl wrap after paint which might be cheaper anyhow. Thanks in advance!

Doing the vinyl wrap could be way better. Pick the style and color (lighter or darker) of grain and have the graphics done. Just a thought.

Yeah I’m thinking lighter color because I’m pondering painting this thing seafoam green.

Also, take into consideration the interior color, IF you can tie them in together.

Yeah I thought of that too so it’ll have to be much darker than that. Sort of a pecan color

Thanks that is helpful. I also have to see what they have available up here. Things get pretty limited pretty fast and shipping is usually ridiculous if they’ll ship at all.

Metro-Good people. Local to me. Drove there one day and got wrap samples.
Make sure the wood grain runs the right way before ordering.

We had three wagons in our family with woodgrain.
1966 Artesian Turquoise Irid. Chevy Caprice, 1969 Frost Green Irid. Chevy Kingswood, 1975 Olds Custom Cruiser, 70's Med Beige Pinto Squire.
All were cool looking and driving cars. Woodgrain made cars easy to wash and wax. Less paint.

Previous owner replaced the woodgrain on my car with a lighter color (original was very darkon these cars). I like it a lot this way. Before and after pics below.

This particular vinyl was manufactured by a company based in France as I recall (I can't remember the name but could dig it up). I visited their website once and they had something like 100 different woodgrain colors and styles.

    Regards,
    Lou

That’s a nice wagon Lou. Spending on what color I decide to try painting it I may end up a lighter color too. Thanks for sharing.

On stationwagonforums.com they have an entire section dedicated to woodgrain. Lots of good information in there.

Not a fox but here’s my ‘54 Country Squire. The dark wood is 3m Di-Noc and the light wood is painted.
I would love to see theses colours on a fox wagon!

I like the contrasting colours, this body style definitely needs the cream around the windows and pillars to break up the car.

Some Factory cars had the pillars painted wood grain as well.
