Thread: Hey!

    Default Hey!

    Hey everyone!

First time fox body owner! Got myself an 84 Mustang, little skeptical on it but Vin and buck tag both say GT. Recently came across some possible issues, looks like I have a bent strut tower but not sure as of yet. Hoping it’s fine so I can really get to work on it!

Came without an engine so I found a 5.0 from a 95 Mustang GT to drop in it.

Nothing in a decoded VIN will indicate a GT. The L and LX models with the 5.0L engine have the same codes in the VIN that a GT does. But if the buck tag for the same VIN is stamped with "GT" then it is one. The door tag also has a unique code for GT. (The "A/C" code with a "G_" or "T_" code means GT or Turbo GT, respectively.)

Interesting that the '84 Mustang L was available with the 5.0. I know that combination wasn't possible only 1 year previous.

I believe the 5.0L engine became available in the Mustang L in the middle of the 1983 model year.
