    Question 1979 Notch value

    I recently connected with someone of Facebook that has a 1979 2.8 V6 WITH manual set up. He was going to sell me the entire drivetrain for a very reasonable cost once he started his project to V8 it. I've been looking for a 2.8 manual set up for a while.

    Was told last week their plan has changed and they may be looking to sell the car. I do not want to miss the opportunity for the manual set up to upgrade our other car. The rest of the car looks reasonable also.

    Car is around 8-10 hours one way drive from me. Car sat for 20 years. Car looks to have been from the USA and speedo/odometer is in miles. Car is currently in Canada.

    Car had been repainted. The trunk lid has been replaced with a non-79 one.

    What would be a reasonable cost or offer for this car?

    Date - 08-78 = August 1978 build
    GVWR - 3759 lb/1705 kg = gross vehicle weight rating
    Front GAWR - 1978 lb/897 kg = front gross axle weight rating
    Rear GAWR - 1801 lb/816 kg = rear gross axle weight rating
    F0137 = 0137 lbs front accessory reserve load
    R0061 = 0061 lbs rear accessory reserve load
    Exterior Paint Colors - 9D = Polar White
    DSO - 23 = Memphis district sales office
    Body - 66H = Mustang Ghia 2-door sedan (coupe)
    VR - [blank] = no vinyl roof
    Mldg - 73P = Black bodyside molding, Argent inset stripes
    Int Trim - FB = cloth & vinyl seating, low-back front buckets (F), Wedgewood Blue interior trim color (B)
    AC - A = manual air conditioner
    R - [blank] = no factory radio
    S - C = sunroof
    Ax - F = 3.45:1 axle ratio, conventional (non-locking) differential
    Tr - 5 = Tremec SROD 4-speed overdrive manual transmission
    DD = front springs
    MM = rear springs

    It looks pretty solid. What about the manual setup (other than the bellhousing I imagine?) is hard to get?

    Thanks for replying.

    I would rather have a whole set up rather than attempt to piece something together. I believe 79 pedal and clutch cable set up is different also. I'd prefer to just remove and install

    With needing to go the distance to get this I was thinking of offering $1500 - $2000 Canadian.

    I understand. I'm more of a hunter/gatherer when it comes to stuff like that, but it is nice to have everything you need right there. Would you swap the automatic in this and resell it or keep it? $1500-$2000 USD seems reasonable to me. So $1500-$2000 in Canadian dollars seems even more reasonable. The questions is will it seem reasonable to the seller. Any chance you could fly in and drive it home? That sounds like more fun than hauling a trailer 8-10 hours and then hauling the car back 8-10 hours.

    Looks pretty nice. If everything is in good condition, it might be worth $3-5K. But that's a lot for a parts car.

    FYI. Dont take the trailer both ways. Rent a Uhaul auto transport nearest the car and pick it up when you get there. Drop off in home town. Usually costs me about US$150 and they give you 3-4 days. You'll save that in gas !
