Default Fuel tank fill neck leaks at tank

So I went to fill my SVO up today and it leaks out of the filler neck seal pretty badly. I would assume it’s the same as the other foxbody mustangs, hence the body section posting. How would I go about replacing it? Is the generic parts store one good enough or should I be buying some special aftermarket one?

Fairly easy to replace. Open the filler door and remove the 7 screws. On the hatchback you may need to remove the inner panel. Down by the tank is 1 screw and a bracket. Once you have it all loose, wiggle the tube out and pop out the grommet.

Lube the fuel filler pipe end to aid reinstall into grommet.
New grommet onto tank no big deal.
Neck into new grommet is a very tight fit.
I striped the filler pipe clearly all the way around at the grommet before removal. Duct tape or paint work.
Lube pipe from tank end to mark on pipe.
Marking also aided reinstall. Was a positive reference to make sure the pipe was inserted the correct depth into the grommet.
Was a new tank install. May not need to do this with tank already in.

Might want to also replace the rubber at the top of the tube to body.

    All great advice above!
When I replaced my tank, I also replaced those gaskets. Others have replaced the tank, just to have minor leaks form the 30+ year old gaskets. Then, they have to drop the tank and replace the gaskets. Imho, just replace the gaskets.
Also, reread what gr79 posted. :-)

And, btw, in case you didn't already know, LMR will quickly become your best friend. :-)

    Good Luck!
