    Default Convertible Door Window Replacements

Does anyone know where I can find replacement convertible door windows? I have been able to find replacement windows for non convertible/t-top cars on the usual restoration sites, however I haven’t had any luck for convertible specific replacement door windows. Would be for an 86.

    Thanks,
    Matt

Are you looking for NEW or good used window glass?

I have had good luck using car-parts.com to find door glass if good used will work for you.

The 83-early 88 convertible door glass will work for your 86. Once Ford switched to the body mounted Post style mirror mid 88 the door glass changed. Good Luck!

    Hi Trey,

Thank you for responding. Honestly, I would take either at this point as long as the used was in good condition obviously.

i will have to check out the site you provided to see what’s out there. Also than you for the tip as to the differences in window between years, I learned something new today!

I think I may have found a replacement off an 86 convertible. Are there any questions I should be asking? Are the windows the same for car with manual and power windows? That’s probably the main thing I’m concerned with before buying.

Windows are the same. Obvious the regulators are different between a manual and power setup.

Was tinted glass (sun-x) standard on the fox bodies or was it an option like on the early Mustangs and Mustang II's? Just curious......

I know there is tinted and clear glass for the Foxes. I am not sure how/when/why one is installed over the other. Foxchassis would probably be the better one to ask that question.

Have dealer brochures for my 79 Mustang and 85 LTD.
    Clear was standard.
Tinted glass was optional on both. Was recommended but not included with a/c.
My 79 has no a/c but has tinted glass complete, a 59.00 option.
Clearly remember back then thought it odd to have full tint and no a/c.
Tinted windshields, or even top band tint only, started in the late 50's, far as i can find.

Still having some issues finding one of these. For the few I’ve actually found I’ve emailed the sellers and have received no response. I don’t get it, if I had an interested buyer contact me I’d make sure I responded back, especially given the current state of the economy.

Do you know if the side windows on a 86 convertible were tinted? It is a non AC csr.

Tinted windows were standard on convertibles in 84 and this probably continued thru 93 as they standardized options. With or without ac.

I think I found a nice one but the description says 87-83. Based upon what you had described this may or may not work for my car?

In the 1986 model year tinted glass was recommended with A/C but it was not required. Tinted glass was standard in convertibles and SVO. It was optional otherwise.

I will check my glass book later for all iterations of convertible door glass.

If they can send you a picture of the glass or even a picture of the door it will be easy to tell. If the mirror is still on the window frame then it will fit your car. If the mirror is the paddle style mounted down on the body, then the window is different and will not work. Hope that helps!

The NAGS catalog that I have is dated 1999. That's why some models on that scanned page stop at 1999.

I have both sides convertible glass from doors I got a long time ago. I'm in AL though, shipping might be a bit steep for even one. I'd have to dig them out of my basement and separate/verify them from the non conv glass I have. If you're interested.

i had found one but not sure if it occurred during shipping but there was a scratch in the middle of it so for now I kept the window that I already had. I may have to look into a place that can polish it to see if the scratch can be removed. What type of condition is the one you have?

I’ll dig them out and check, I don’t think they’re scratched, been some years since I messed with them.
