Default Help with lights and turn signals

Working on a 79 pace car. All the exterior lights work but not properly. The right side of the car works great. The left side not so much. The turn signals flash normally but when I turn on the headlights or even just parking lights the left side turn signals slow way down. They blink at least half as fast as normal. Maybe slower. Also the indicator light on the dash stays lit. I was looking at the wiring diagram but cant find the grounds around the dash. Anyone have any words of wisdom??

I would double check the ground for the front lights on the radiator support. One on each side 1/4 or 7mm green screw just above the headlights at the corners. Make sure both are grounding to good metal.

Most likely the issue is with your headlight switch, if its original or old, I would replace with a new one. Good Luck!

Another thing to check: Sometimes the filaments break and can lay on the other one in the bulb (1157, twin filament bulb). When you turn on the headlights that bulb might might fire off the brake light filament (backfeed). It causes the turn signals to act wonky. It has happened to me twice but it isn't hard to see when you really look at the lights.

Ground is the best place to start though.

Replaced bulbs, new headlight switch, so I'll start with triple checking grounds

Did it do the same before you replaced the bulbs, if so start on grounds. I have seen new bulbs that are built wrong, if it is doing it with new bulbs...well there you go.

Best advice my father ever gave me: "If it worked before you touched it, and it doesn't work now...it is obviously something you did!"

    Good luck!

Dont know if it worked before because the headlight switch was destroyed so I wasnt able to try the lights out when I bought the car.

If you're sure of the proper bulbs being installed try a new heavy duty flasher can #552.

Yep. Tried several different 552 flashers. Same results.
Gonna get a new switch and go from there
