Default Engine bay body color or black?

Working on a 79 notch. 4 to 8 cyl swap. It wont be a show car but will take it to shows and cruised around. Going to hide wires and such and make it look nice.

Is it bad to do it in black? Like frowned upon? Car color will be velocity blue.

For my .02 worth, I vote body color definitely.

My .02 is the body color looks much better and is correct for the Fox body, so that is my first choice. The black engine bay was standard with the 60's Mustangs, but just looks out of place in the Foxes IMHO. Good Luck!

I agree with everyone else on here, color match the car! On a side note, how are you tackling the mass amounts of vacuum lines on the firewall itself? Removing them, taping them? For the wires as well, what are you doing to get paint behind everything - maybe it's a dumb question as you are doing a V-8 swap and have everything gutted. I just would really like to do this to my engine bay, but holy moly - I don't even know where to start. Post some pics if you can!

I agree with everyone else, body color looks best. I am also currently working on cleaning things up in my engine bay since I had my intake off i thought I would take care of other things like the wiring, painting a few things and replace vacuum lines. I am going to pull my wiring harness out and re-tape it then feed it back in to try and hide it the best I can. No clue how ill hide the vacuum lines yet so I am also interested in how you do yours.

Here is a pic of where I am at before I started the wiring and ill post after pics also

If you don't want to pull wiring and other major parts and pieces in the engine bay for painting. I highly recommend buying some cheap aluminum foil from Walmart or the Dollar store. Use the aluminum foil ask masking for the wires and odd shaped parts/pieces. Shape it to the wires, parts, etc. and with just a wrap of tape it will stay in place. Great stuff for engine bays and hard to mask items. Good Luck!

Engine bay's looks better with body color in my opinion, That is what I did but it is a lot of work. I wire tucked mine and filled in all the holes for a smooth look.

I vote no for black, but body or offset color is a yes. When I did my v8 swap, I welded a few of the holes closed and painted mine "aluminum" which came out a light silver. My car is wrapped, so can be green or purple depending on the view point. A complimenting lighter color would be a good option.

Black is nice (and clean), but I think the matching body color takes it to the next level! The hardest part is removing everything, and you're already there... Velocity Blue all day!
