Default Great deal on Tokico D Spec front struts

Maybe this doesn't fit here but there has been too much talk about purchasing KYB's not to.

Right now everyone is closing out the Tokico D Spec struts. This is a fully adjustable strut that can take a coil over (not to race spec springs though) setup. Maximum Motorsports also sold them so you know they are not chicken feed.

Anywho, DB3140 fits the 94-2004 Mustang and retrofits the Fox body (also recommended by Maximum Motorsports). You can pick up a pair on EBay for $60 + tax and free shipping! You can't even get cheap replacement struts for that amount. So for all you KYB shoppers, look these up and jump on a deal!

    Hope it helps anyone interested.

    Kenny,
When you say the this strut set designed for 94-2004 Mustangs "retrofits the Fox body", are there any tips instructions somewhere on how to effectively use them in Fox cars (1979-1993)?
    Thanks,
    Raul

Nothing to do, they just bolt in. Go to the maximum Motorsports website, look in faq or shock section for fox bodies, it will answer why you want to do it.

Has anyone installed the 2005-2010 rear shocks on a FOX body? They look the same but not sure how they would handle.

The DB3140 struts are designed for a SN95 Mustang at stock ride height. They have a compressed length of 12.32". The DB3026 version of this strut (for a 1987-93 V8 application), has a compressed length of 11.39".

If you install the DB3140 on your Fox at stock ride height, the front suspension will bottom out 0.93" earlier. If the car is lowered 1.5", it will bottom out 2.43" earlier. The car will ride like ****.

The only acceptable way to use these struts on a Fox is if the car is at stock ride height or uses SN95 spindles. These spindles have the strut mounting ear lowered 1.14" compared to a Fox. This will compensate for the longer DB3140 struts.

Of course you can not use either of these struts with 1979-86 spindles or 1987-93 2.3l spindles.

There is a reason that there are a glut of these struts on eBay.

    Jack -
Any idea how they will work on the SVO LCAs with SN95 spindles?
    Thanks, Mike

    Sweet, thanks!
    And, thanks to mudgepondexpress!

My car is very close to stock height (26-7/8" to the fender lip), and I have sn95 spindles.
I currently have Tokico Blues from when I did the M2300K install back in the 90's.

Btw: That hood gap was how the came directly from the factory.

Than you Jack for the reminder... I modded mine years ago and forget how some of the changes affect it. You are an awesome resource!

Mr. Hidley, do you recall if the MMCO-1 coilovers fit on the D-Specs? Or is the strut diameter wrong?

The MMCO-1 do not fit on a D-spec strut. The MMCO-2 will. You will need to pop off the metal cap and grind down the OD of the metal flange to slide the threaded sleeve past it. Don't break the metal flange off as described in the installation instructions.

OK, thanks. This was just an idea for an interim setup, since I already have the MMCO-1 and will eventually pick up some MM struts.

S197 shocks have a compressed length of between 0.25" and 0.55" greater than a 1979-2004 SA shock. so that they will restrict the bump travel some.

The valving will have a lot more compression damping, due to the use of a not overconstrained rear suspension. Rebound damping is similar due to the lack of overconstrained suspension, but the greater overall mass.

No. We would just install the correct part on the car.

Great info: So if you grabbed a set of these for future install on SN95 spindle set-up, what would be any options for shocks out back if the D-Spec rears were not available? Would I have issues running a standard shock with this D-Spec strut up front?
