Default Need quick answer on 86 v6

Hey guys. I have an 86 v6 coupe I'm selling locally. Buyer thinks it may be an 85 because it has the throttle body injection. He says 86 v6 cars should be efi. Can anyone answer? If 86 is correct year, should it be efi?

And to answer the question, I'm out of town and the title is home. I'm fairly certain it says 86 but now I'm questioning myself.

No idea about the V6 but the 86 should have the third brake light, unless someone removed it.

    Good luck with your sale.

Wife just confirmed vin and title. It's an 86. Not sure if the guy was correct about efi.

Ford used the throttle body aka cfi on the v6. They also called the same set up efi on the V8 in 84/85

Great info! Most of the foxes I've owned were 4-eye. Only a couple of them were v6 cars. I don't ever recall seeing an upper plenum on a v6 fox. So that just didn't sound correct to me. But I'm always open to learning something new.

Not that it matters any more, but I don't think the 3.8 got MPFI until '88.

I thought 4 cyl and v8 were the only options after 86.

By the way, I've had nothing but tire kickers on the car. So I'm getting ready to list it here in FEP classifieds.

They were the only options in the Mustang from 87-93. The Thunderbird and the Cougar both still offered the V6 in 87/88 and ONLY the 3.8 or 3.8 Super charge 89 and later.

Sorry. I was speaking in general about the 3.8 engine in whatever car it was installed in. Basically the CFI would still be the installed induction on the 3.8 on any car in 1986. Maybe the buyer was thinking because the V8 switched to MPFI in '86 that the V6 followed suit, but it did not.

The v6 was dropped about November 85 so some 86 cars did go out with it. Also the V8 was not readily available as well. Special ordered cars were delayed
