    Default ssp wheels

i have this love affair with the 85-86 ssp steel mustang wheels.i have a oxford white 85 gt that i believe would look great with a set of these wheels powdercoated gloss black.never realized how rare and how hard they are to find.all the research i have done turned up with not finding a set for sale anywhere.but i did find these.are these pretty much the same wheel? also i emailed them for availability.waiting to hear back.

I have the 15 x 7 SSP steel wheels on my 85 using pinto screw on caps I found on E bay. The Fairmont caps that came with the optional aluminum wheels also fit as far as I know. Original caps are nearly impossible to find or pry out of collectors hands

Hmmmm E7 means 87, unsure they made em that year, unless used for other models

I believe the part number started as E5WY
, and I believe that part numbers that appears on both styles of the cap.

When brand new in the box, the part numbers will be different. Then they will be E5ZZ and E6ZZ for the different finishes.

There's also an escort/topaz? center cap that's often confused. It being shallower and will not clear the dust cap without modification.

Buy a bunch of CHEAP as in damn near FREE Ford Escort center caps. Yes they are the same cap as a SSP cap with one exception, buy a Plastex plastic repair kit, cut up a couple caps to get a center knob extension and make your own SSP center caps.

This is how ya git SSP center caps for those who's MONEY IS WORTH MORE THAN THEIR TIME!

By the way you only need the extended center on the caps you run on the front wheels.

You can run the Escort caps as is on the rear. Only the purist know it all will ever say anything or notice!

Use automotive exterior grade paint (Not Duplicolor in a can) or power coat the wheels.

Spray can paint chips easier and most importantly FADES much quicker.

Do em right the first time and they will look good for a longtime!

Had the wheels sandblasted today.25 bucks a wheel.had them done in a hour.got some self etching s.e.m. Primer on them now...Going s.e.m. Gloss black with trans star clear over it..should be pretty sweet when done..or at least Iím hoping..powder coating around here the cheapest quote I got was 400.im all set paying that.i donít drive the car a ton,so Iím hoping the paint will last for quite awhile..

The first two wheels were from Facebook marketplace in Michigan.he was willing to sell them to me if I wanted them.i ended up seeing a set listed on Craigslist Rhode Island which is right next door to me.the guy in Michigan wasn’t to keen on shipping them out but agreed to do it.he wanted 60 bucks for both wheels.i told him I had found some locally as a set and he was cool with it.might still be listed.it turns out the guy in ri I got them from was the same guy I bought a rear bumper from years ago.heis a member here but doesn’t come on here a lot.
