    Default Weld oil pickup tube to pump?

    I have a JEGS brand 6 qt street/strip oil pan. It's instructions say to weld the pickup tube to the oil pump? I've never done that on a 302 nor stumbled upon one welded. Is it maybe a Chevy thing? Would you do it?
    83 5.0 GT. Quicker than it looks! 10:1 (or just over) 306, Motorsport a332 cam, 140A alt, t5 conv, 8.8 w/ 3.27's, Edel rpm, alum rad, very worked e7's, Holley SA carb, etc... SOLD IT!!!!

    Now an 1981 Granada! .040 over 302, Edel E-street heads... Currently building a 347 because, why not?

    I have seen those instructions before, but in my experience it has been for the press in style pick up tubes not any bolt on tubes. If "welded" the general recommendation was to braze the pick up tube to the pump. Brazing will use less heat which can prevent damage to the pump gears. Good luck!

    Doesn't the pick up have a flange to bolt to the pump?

    Putting a few spot welds on the pickup to the pump is very good insurance. That way it can never separate if the bolts back out.

    Hi,
    I safety wire the bolts an it works fine to prevent bolts from backing out.

    Blue Loctite works very well too. Red Loctite if you don't really ever want it to come apart without possibly damaging the bolts.

    Planning to just use some loctite as insurance. I've never had one come apart before or heard of it happening in normal to above normal situations.

    But, I need to go buy a new set of oil pan bolts. For some idiotic reason I got them an inch and a quarter long which makes them bottom out before sealing. Oops!

    At least this (this is my fourth pan. Two Proform that were damaged/bad and one Weiand that was made wrong- tube welded way way off square to flange) pan fits! And the pickup screen to pan floor clay's out at the right distance!

    Buy bolts. Install pan. Install aluminum heads that are sitting on shelf. Getting there...
