Default V6 3.8L Lift Plate to Remove the Engine

I need to pull the V6 in my '86. It doesn't have any brackets like my V8, and the Chilton manual says to use a specific Ford lift plate that goes onto the intake in place of the TBI unit. Can I just use a universal lift plate from Summit Racing instead of the Ford specific lift plate in the manual? I'd assume so, unless the bolt pattern is weird.

Not sure if this will work with V6 exhaust manifolds, but I pull the 5.0’s by the headers using tow or tie down straps

I'll usually use corner intake manifold bolts on opposite corners of the engine. Otherwise, if there are accessory bolt holes on the front/rear of the heads You can use those to attach a chain to as well. Just make sure you have enough thread engagement in either case and you should be fine.

I would think the cfi unit would be pretty close to the Ford 2100 2bbl carb. It might be easier to find one for that.

I used one of my heavy-duty tiedown straps through the exhaust manifolds to pull everything out. Engine and trans came out together without too much hassle. Now to get cleaning.

Easy peasy that way. Congrats. I’ll watch for the pics on IG
