Default My new find. 1981 Mustang 2 tone

I bought the wife this survivor 1981 Mustang. It has no options except a rear wiper. Has a 200 I6 with automatic. The interior is mint. The exterior is very clean for being a 37 year old car. It has the typical rust at the rear wheels but that is easily fixable. It has an AM radio with one speaker only. No speaker cut outs in the rear panels. I have never seen that before. It was a 1 owner car kept in the garage till the owner died and the kids just sent it to the Kidney Foundation. The oil change sticker said oil change due at 95560 km on November 2016. It only has 91368 km on the odometer. So car was sitting for a few years. I drove it home 350km on the freeway and it performed flawless. I am very happy about this score.

Shane, the car looks great and in really good shape like you state. I also would like to see some more pictures. 100k km is not a lot so I imagine it is in quite good shape all around.

What are your plans for this one? You bought a pretty original Capri tu-tone for your wife a couple of years ago, put a V8 in it and then sold it.

I also just picked up a 1987 Mustang GT 5.0L 5 speed car to swap the drivetrain into. Relax, the GT is rotted out in the frame and body.

Yes I did sell it and the wife regretted it every day after that. I spent the last couple years looking for a clean 1981 Mustang/capri. I told her that if I find a clean 1981 that it goes into my name so she can not sell the car.

My plans are to find a Cobra/GT/Pace car body kit and swap the drivetrain from a donor 1987 GT 5.0L 5 speed part car. I want to keep the interior stock and the same paint colors on the outside. Basically modernize the car so she can drive it with no issues. The Fitech I put on her last capri was awesome but some times she had trouble with it not understanding how it works. If I stick with the stock 87 EFI system and wire it all in, it will be reliable for her.

This year we are going to hit the Mustang car shows in the stock catagory and see if we win anything. Winter of 2020 the 87 GT will be stripped of it's gear and spring it will go into the 1981. Fingers crossed that in 2021 it will be V8 powered and the wife will be happy.
