I'm getting to the point of looking for a stereo for my 83. In my high school 83 I has a Pioneer Super Tuner III so am looking for a source to research and find a unit that would be the correct time frame and yes its a "Shaft" or "Knob" style radio.

There's little info on Pioneer's web site.
Imho, ebay is your best bet. Just look through the search results.
Try searching for:
Pioneer radio cassette
or
Pioneer car cassette
Two finds, the second is a supertuner II. I think that the first is a supertuner-III.

Good luck.
Or search Pioneer super tuner iii: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fro...0%2C+lnw+80%29

That was the first search that I tried. But, there weren't any shaft-type radios when I searched.
I then tried Pioneer and shaft, that resulted in very few results.
A shaft-type radio will very likely have a cassette.
Finding a shaft-type radio with a CD would be very rare, and I doubt that Pioneer ever made one.
Fwiw, the Pyle PLR14MPF is a shaft-type radio that also has a CD.
A few

The days when radios could be operated by feel without taking eyes off the road to view a touchscreen or focus on tiny buttons.
Or get one's face lit up like a ghost from glowing screens.
Kenwood, Pioneer, Sanyo, Alpine, JVC, Sony, RS Realistic, Clarion, Panasonic, Marantz, Jenson were popular.
This has been a fun trip back in time. I ran across a whole vintage car stereo thing that I never knew existed. There are Facebook groups and groups on the internet solely devoted to collecting vintage car stereos. One of the sights is Tapeheads.net . These guys have racks full on vintage used and new radios. There are sources for guys that repair and restore these radios. It is quite interesting. Ebay was only the start of my journey. I did get my Pioneer Super Tuner III. Thinking of sending it off to have it gone through.
