    Default Best Body Kit?

    Hi All,

This is my first post to the forum. I final found myself an unmolested 84 to freshen up. It's a long way from New Zealand to the States to return product's so I need advice on which body kit to go for? And which ones to stay away from?

    Welcome to FEP!

The first question has to be what look are you going for with your 1984? There are several options in regards to body kits, some great and some not so great.

In my opinion the only two "styles" I like on the Four eyes are the Saleen body kit and the 93 Cobra body kit (at least the sides and rear valance that is). I have paired the 93 Cobra side skirts and rear valance with the original front air dam on my 1979 Pace Car and really like that look. The OEM Pace Car/Cobra/GT air dam is a nice piece, but doesn't work as well on the 83-86 Mustangs. The Xenon air dam is nice piece that I would also consider. https://lmr.com/item/LRS-3129/1983-8...-Front-Air-Dam

Obviously you can buy an original Saleen body kit from Saleen directly. https://www.saleenperformance.com/co...oducts/031-001

You can buy a copy version of the kit from Cervini's. https://www.cervinis.com/87-90mustang-4-piece-kit.html

You can buy a version of the 93 Cobra kit from Wings West: http://www.wingswest.com/catalog/For...plete-Kit.html

There are multiple vendors that offer the Cervin's and Wings West products so you may find better pricing or shipping from other companies. Most kits other than the actual Saleen version are designed for the 87-90 cars and will fit your 84 with some minor tweaks and adjustments on the front and rear bumper covers. The shape of the 84 bumper covers both front and rear are slightly different than the 87-90 NON GT covers so keep that in mind. Nothing that a good body shop or something with some basic body work skills can't tackle.

There may be other kits out there that are decent quality, but these are the only brands that I personal would spend the $$ on. All of the them are quality urethane products that fit pretty well right out of the box and don't need major work to fit and look good. All of the cheaper kits will save you money up front, but will cost you more on the backside due to poor fitment, quality, and overall finish. Best of Luck!

That's cool that you can still purchase that kit from Saleen. I wish the Kamai was still available, loved that front air dam.

Mr Joshua has a house, a fiance and a 12 hour per shift job, but his post on his 83 Stang is a good start.

although its not body kitted, Mr Joshua and I just love the smooth integrated look of modern SN99'd Mustangs.

Everything is pretty much where i need it as far as mechanical's go.. after my 7th.. yes 7th power steering pump.. it's fixed.. added a tranny cooler and the new pump hasn't leaked (yet).. have some new door and hatch strikers to put on and I've got a dash, dash pad, console, door panels, etc.. i just need to get the time to get in touch with Dave who's got them and work out a time that's good to pick them up.. all black of course.. i'm going to try to get to the dyno this year but I've been too busy working to do much of anything.. except R&R on the weekends.. this winter i'll be pulling the motor, sending the block out.. new bearings, rings, pistons? slight possibility of some refreshed used heads and a different intake.. i want to pickup a new TKO 600 and a new 3 core radiator.. but i might wait on the radiator step down on the thermostat as it's running a 195 now and never got over 200*-210* even in dead stop traffic at 95* in the summer. and wait on the radiator and concentrate on the tranny and rebuild.. we'll see though.. i'll post more when theirs actually something worthwhile being done..
