Default Rules State "No Politics or Religon"?

I'm just curious about these "Andrew Yang 2020" Presidential candidate banner ads. I've never seen these type of ads here at FEP.

It goes directly against the posted rules.

I find him soliciting money for his campaign inappropriate at a minimum. I guess things have changed around here.

    I don't like it.

I don't know what you're talking about as I've been running an ad blocker, not just here but for all my browsing, for years. I'm surprised everybody doesn't do that.

Maybe it's a phone thing. That I wouldn't know about as I never browse on a phone.

In general the banner ads you see on the site have more to do with the searches you conduct and the sites you visit than FEP. My understanding is the ads are tailored to your past history and do not reflect any specific sponsorship of the site. I have never seen any political ads on my feed. I do often see ads for LMR and other Mustang sites that I visit while trying to help post information or any questions on the site. I also see ads for companies such as Summit Racing, Speedway Motors, and others that I have linked to on the site. I do occasionally see ads for dog food, financial services, and other things.

Also keep in mind that in order to help pay for the server costs, etc for this site you have the banner ads. Member donations have been not been consistent enough nor significant enough to cover the monthly costs all the time. The banner ads are a necessity to just keep the site up and running. Personally they don't bother me at all and I don't find them anywhere as annoying as all the constant pop up ads and video ads I have to watch before being allowed to view or watch virtually anything else.

Mike, Sorry to hear you are so unhappy with FEP. I hope you do understand that NO ONE that helps to maintain this site is paid for their time and work in any way. Are there things here that could be done better, SURE! But I would have to say overall for a site that has no paid staff members the site is pretty well covered and in general most spam and rule breaking posts and threads are dealt with in a timely and efficient manner. If there are other issues here on the site that you are unhappy with, I am sure myself, the other moderators, and the Administrators of the site would appreciate your thoughts and input. Please feel free to PM me directly and I will pass your thoughts and issues on to the Higher Powers and we will do what we can to address the issues.

Never searched for Yang. Except for him asking for donations on FaceBook from me, just like every other Democrat politician this election cycle, I just block them.

I understand the need for ads and have no problem with car related stuff. Just really sick of politicians with their hands out.

I completely agree and understand. I would assume some how the FB posting has to do with the ads you are seeing. I am not on FB at all, so luckily I don't have to deal with any of that stuff.

    Trey, thanks for the come-back.

Respectfully, I am a $$FEP Supporter$$. AdBlockPlus says that it is blocking 5 ads on the home page and 4 on this page. As a supporter, I'm not supposed to be seeing any ads.

The last ads that I saw on this site were for Russian wives and $50k Chevy pickups from a low-volume dealership 2 hours away (I'm sitting within walking distance of a very high-volume dealership). Both ads were total garbage. This was when it took 10 days to reset me as supporter after my yearly payment. And I've blocked ads on this site ever since.

    There's more, later.

Oh, I don't get pop ups.. Must be my privity settings plus I only use "duck duck Go" no history trail = no adds..

A little more insight into the banners we see. In addition to the ads based on what you've looked at/search on google, other sites etc. there is a pool of 'demographic' ads that are pretty cheap for the seller and the buyer (this site) gets at least some money.

Roughly how it works, in less than 1 second the ad engines
    - look to see what they know about you (your profile)
    - ask an ad exchange for who would pay the most to show you an ad based on what they know
    - see if you've already seen that ad in a period of time (so we get different ads, not the same LMR or local ford dealer ad all the time) if not show it
    - if there is nothing available in the price range, it drops into demographics based on the site profile

My observation, not that I can see the algorithms but this site's profile
    - has many men
    - most are 40+
    - most work in skilled trades
    - a large number are on the both coasts (ding, ding for the Democrat ads)
    - most have disposable income for "toys"

Thus the political ads. Yang probably bought some cheap 'filler' ads aimed at men, 40+ in skilled trades since he's more of a technologist than the others (enough said about who they'd target). that's why you see it.
I'm an FEP Paid Supporter and proud of it. Are you?

I am not aware of any switch to turn off banner ads for a certain list of users.
