    Default 1983 Cat converters

Does anyone know why there is a cat converter on the right side of my 1983 GT and not 1 on the drivers side?

Are you referring to the small cat convertor up near the exhaust manifold?

That is what is called a "Light-Off" convertor. During warm-up, the exhaust Diverter Valve located between the left side exhaust manifold and headpipe closes, and forces the hot exhaust to flow through the exhaust crossover passage in the bottom of the intake. it then combines with the exhaust from the right hand manifold and enters the Light-Off convertor. The reaction that takes place there helps heat up the main convertor down stream, to its most efficient operating temperature.
