    Default Dash harness interchange

I need to remove the dash in the 79 pace car so I can replace it with another dash hull that I got from an 83 gt.
Does any one know if the essential wires and plugs are the same between the two different year harnesses that I can at least plug in necessary stuff so the car can be moved around with out a dash in it?
I have a bunch of other stuff I want to do and it would be easier if I didnt have to worry about protecting the dash.

Much of the basic wiring is similar, but I can't say they are identical. The 79 instrument cluster wiring is different as I believe it was a one year only circuit board on the back. The plugs are the same shape and will plug in, but the wiring is different due to things such as an Alt/volt meter rather than the Amp gauge.

Without looking at the wiring harness connectors, it would be hard to say if it will work or not with 100% certainty. I know most of the connectors and components are in the same location. So most likely to move it around you would just need the main connectors to the engine harness and then the ignition switch on the column. Odds are it might work. Otherwise maybe you pull the 79 harness off the dash hull until you are ready to swap it to the new hull and then you shouldn't have any issues. Good Luck!
