I'm having a difficult time finding a shift lever that "might" fit a 1985 mustang lx aod!
any help would be appreciated.
One that fits the early 1965 looks like it might fit!

See this. There is a Throttle Valve and a Shift rod side by side.
Your application is dependent on induction and the stock CFi and VV7200 and Motorcraft 2150 2-bbl truck systems were exceptionally well engineered. The TV cable for Sequental or Bank Fire Port EFi or especially the Upper link Carb and CFi rod system are excellent. The shift rod for the gear selection goes had and hand with a really got TV rod or cable.
It needs to be noted what is in the pictures. What is the TV cable or Rod , and what is the Shift Rod.
Not every AOD or AOD-E was console shifted, so you have to understand the shift process of the TV cable FIRST and how that works with your carb or EFi type.
Then the shift rod is arranged in a number of ways, Ford was very specific with this. Copying is best.
See this:-
The AOD was effectively a Lincoln/ Panther platform event, so this was I think the first system.
To copy it, you have to probably weld a threaded rod end to the nominal 1/2" to 5/8" diameter rod, or maybee just the flat bracket.
Type 1 Lincoln set up v
Type 2 Panther/Fox set up v
Type 3 Variation Reversed v
Type 4 Variation v
Basically, the rod is really well engineered, and on the 2-bbl 2100 Autolite/2150 Motocraft and some of them oddball VV 7200 and CFi's it clips to a standard upper mount. Basically, the FMX 4300/4350 downshift rod.
For the 1980 to 1985 Panthers, long wheel base Foxes and the CFi 5.0 GT, it was 1968 all over again

looking for the lever inside the car, not on the transmission, thanks for the reply.
What about the floor shifters from the 5.0 cougars and thunderbirds. 83-88
Mike
Now stang-less.
88 Cougar 5.0
Fords shifters had a safety related shift lock recal TSB on early 80s and late 70s floor shifters. Athough you can mix znx match, you have to have space to fit the whole parts clear of the hand brake and the trans tunnel cross members varied. The Aero Stangs and Sterling built big S bodies had a bigger trans tunnel with a foot b
Park brake....so you got to use an updated S shell center consol "binicle" which might wont fit easily.
Any Fox body stuff will fit but Ford shifted the SN95 hardpoints around, and probably the 1980 to 1993 Sterling built specialty coupe XR7/T bird and ĹSC's as well. The Panther frame floor shifted cars wont be an easy fit. Aero Mustangs require some Aero Stang parts that dont match the earlier dash console, so think ahead about what you need.
The older ĢTA style T bar shifter datkng from the late 67 is what the last Mustang 86s were still using. You can respace it for the AOD shift pattern.

The old SelectShift Mustang C4 downshift rod was internally operated off the accelerator pendant; it wont work with an AOD unless its totally re-engineered to suit. All the 65 to 68 Mustangs used this, but it not a throttle valve system the AOD can use easily. It was for the C4 and FMX and C6. Ford moved away from this for the 69 model year.
Good fortune with what you are doing. Ford could have used this system, but didnt because Throttle Valve Downshift systems take up space and need a lot of very special enginerring to work well and be safe in a crash or emergency. It was the Federal crash regulations that remove the internal accelerator pendant downshift.

If you are looking for the shifter without the t handle, you need e6zz-7210-d lever and housing.
It can be found on 84-86 mustang and Capri (before 1/8/86)
It can also be found on the 83-85 Granada and monarch.

The little cable between the T-handle and the detent lock, on my lever is starting to frey.
How difficult is it to change the little cable?
Not the shift cable.
I have a floor shifter I just removed from a 85 gt aod.
