Have a 86 Turbo coupe with the auto tranny and was wondering what highway speed rpm's should be. Is 3500 rpm's normal at around 70 mph?
Is this safe for the motor? Seems like the engine is screaming at that speed.

That seems high to me, but its been awhile since i had my Turbo GT. Spin the tire one revolution and count the number of driveshaft turns. Will tell you what rear gearing is.

Wondering if there is a tag on the diff cover, will have to check? Would these have the smaller 7.5" rear end?

I think the 86 Turbo Coupes came with 3.45 rear gears.

Sounds about right for a three speed trans. I guesstimated your tire size and came up with 3259 at 70mph with a 3.45 rear gear ratio.

Yes, you should have the 7.5" rear if it is original.
My V6 screams at today's highway speeds with the three speed and even 2.73 gears. I hate it.
