Default New gas tanks don't have filler tube bracket hole - make one?

I bought a new gas tank and it does not have the factory hole in the side lip to fasten the bracket.

I think it was an lmr video that suggested just squeezing the lip with two washers, but that seems like it would shake off on the first bump.

I'm a little nervous to drill into that lip or try to weld in more metal with a hole in case it would form a leak.

Anyone else install a new tank and come up with a clever solve?

When I changed the tank on my 88 I just left that bracket hang there. Been 10 years now and it seems fine.

Installed several replacement tanks. Drill the hole at the outer edge of the lip and you will be just fine. Good luck
