Emission/ EGR? Identification??

Hi all I'm new to Foxbodies but not to Mustangs. Recently I brought home a 1985 McLaren Mercury Convertible. Project. I have a coolant leak P/S rear (head gasket??) I am trying to track down, very low idle (stalls out a lot) issue and the car is running rich (strong exhaust gasses). I have changed the plugs, plug wires (some were chewed up)

I am new to the early emission crap and honestly have no clue what half the "extra" looking stuff in the engine bay and on the intake are. I would like to just remove/delete the whole system if I can. Smog pump and all the other stuff. Just now sure what I can and can not remove and the car still run.

There is a T off the Heater Line going to the back of the Carb Can all this be removed?

That looks like a CFI based injection system, not a carb
