Default Quick Question - Headlight installation

    Hi all,

Wondering if someone could help with the installation of the headlight buckets. I dissasembled all my headlights including the buckets because my lights could not be aligned anymore because all the hardware was either rusty or the adjusters were old and brittle.

I bought this installation kit from Matt at Fox Resto,

My question is regarding the tension spring, can someone tell me which side of the spring goes toward the headlight header panel and which side of the spring goes on the headlight bucket? I also want to confirm the correct location where the spring attaches to the bucket. I understand it goes on the indentation on the bottom corner, rather than on the corner, is this right?

HereŽs a pic with the spring, please help me out figure which end goes where!

    thanks a lot!

The long end of the spring with the smaller curve goes on the header panel. The Big end with the larger curve goes on the headlight bucket itself.

Sure thing! Oh and in my experience the best way to install the buckets is to install the spring on the header panel, then clip the bucket, then insert the adjusting screws into the bucket. Finally thread the adjusting screws into the plastic clips (not inserted into the header panel yet). Then slowly run the screw into the clip and align it with the opening in the header panel and clip in place. Its a bit hard to describe, but doing it the way above helps prevent the spring from coming off or breaking during the install. Good Luck!

I will surely follow your advice on the installation steps, as that is also one of my concerns. Your steps make all the sense, since the new spring is going to be strong. You think its better to install the top aligning screw and then the lateral one, of course after the spring is in place?

I will take some pics when I install them, might be a good idea to have some sort of visual aid for future reference! I found tons on "how to" videos on installing Aero Headlamps, but pretty much none on how remove and install Four Eye headlights!

I just replaced my 4-eye headlights, and it's on YouTube (my signature). I did the springs first, then the lateral screw, and lastly the top (vertical) screw. I have original parts, and modified my buckets, so my way may only apply to my car. I have a video on alignment also if you need anything.

Here are some pics as well as the steps I followed to install the headlights and all the assembly parts. I Got the whole kit from Fox Resto,...

Step 1: I thoroughly cleaned the headlight header panel, removed the old alignment screws (push them from the sides or top bottom to release and then push them back (you can pick them from behind the round headlight holes). I also took the time to wash and repaint the headlight buckets, and replaced one of them that was all rusty (I had some spares from a 83 front end that I am not using).

Step 2: Install the new white clips where the buckets rest. Just push them into place. Then install the new adjusting screws, and the tension springs. I unscrewed the lateral ones all the way out to make it easier to reinstall the buckets. The top screws were left in place but I did unscrewed them almost all the way out.

Step 3: Reinstall the headlight buckets. this was probably the "more" complicated part, yet it was easier than I thought. I first clipped the tension spring in place, and then positioned the top portion back on the top screw. I then screwed in the top screw half way to help position the bucket correctly. I then reinstalled the lateral screw and tightened both screws so the bucket would seat almost parallel. Install both buckets.

Step 4: Reinstalling the headlights. I used the headlight rings and screws that came with the kit. I first connected the headlamp sockets back before reinstalling into the bucket, however you can do it from behind the core support as well later if preferred.

Step 5: Reinstall the Headlight Bezels (three screws, two top ones and one central lower one). Repeat the same for the other side. After everything was assembled I aligned both low and high beams by pointing the car towards a white wall at an aprox. 10 ft distance. The headlights are adjusted up and down via the top screw, and laterally with the side screw.

Overall it wasn't as difficult as I thought, it took me about one hour to complete the "re installation". I wish I had done this many years ago, as my front end always looked bad with the headlights misaligned from the old hardware, and of course I can see much better at night now!

Hope it helps for future reference!

I really need help with removing my headlight buckets.
I have a complete kit from LMR.

In the pictures shown, it seems the headlight dividers are removed?
That would make for more room to work in, not sure how to remove them though.
Any help getting these buckets out without damaging anything would really be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
