Well after much struggle, the old brake booster is gone. The old one was black but the the replacement one is a gold ish metallic and feels a bit oily. Should I paint it black or leave it as is?

Paint it but clean it a lot before you do.
Clean it until you think it’s clean then clean it 3 more times.
I replaced two boosters in the last year and got fish eyes like nothing I’ve ever seen. Whatever they put on those is hard to get off.

OK, I will wash it down with acetone really well and brush all the tight spots and then use the pre paint cleaner, hopefully that will work well. I don't want to have to replace this damn booster ever again, what a major pain to get that out.
