Default Crane advance instructions wrong I think?

The light spring should have the lowest full advance engine RPM. And the heavy spring the highest, right?
    Thanks.

Heavier spring more rpm for advance lighter less rpm for advance.
I needed heaviest. Low comp engines you can lighten them up
You may need to weld your slot to limit the advance if your running increased compression
Also can bend the tabs where the spring hooks up to fine tune the advance.

I find the factory heavy spring and one of the kits to be a good combo . Removing the factory heavy and using any combo of theirs is detonation time. They do not supply a heavy spring like the factory give you in the kit.

    Thanks for the information.
Going camping for a week. But promiss to show the results of my recurve attempts when done.
BTW, got a spare 77 and the 79 distributor from my car. Think they are the same. But am curious to find out whether the slots are the same.

Soldered the slot to 7 degrees / 14 advance.

Used one original with the lightest spring from the kit.
Reinstalled distributor after checking the timing markings. Were 1 degree of. Not bad on 42 year old parts.
Turned vacuum adjuster all the way left.
Wanted max 14 degrees. Can 't set it below 20. Plan to make a limiter on it.
It's at 14 static, 20 max vacuum, total 46 degrees at 2500 and beyond.
    WOW, What a Difference!!!
Stupid me thought a lifter was bad. Engine ticked first few minutes after cold starts.
    Was preignition knock...
Pulls harder at all rpm 's.
Want to put vacuum back at timed port.
It pulls 20mmHg at idle. Results in too much advance at idle that causes the idle rpm in- out of drive difference too high. Now 1100 - 650.
When vacuum unhooked the difference is far lower.
Still like vacuum advance to work properly for economy on long hauls.
    More to come.
