Default Pace car front valance help

My pace car's lower valance came with the car, but it was removed and sitting inside. I left it off throughout the rebuild because it provided extra room for a floor jack. I'm now at the point where I'm needing to reinstall it, but I'm not sure how to go about it. By looking at it, I presume it's not easy. Does the upper cover have to be removed first or is there an easier way? To make matters even more difficult, the car (including the bumper and valance) are already painted.

Forgot to add that I've been reading through the old posts and can't seem to find this info. I did find some info about the specialty hardware that was originally used and some posts about the new aftermarket valance LMR sells. Not much about the removal/replacement of the original.

Here is a diagram of the front bumper and air dam setup.

Unfortunately the diagram doesn't really show the hardware that attaches the upper cover to the front bumper reinforcement. The lower air dam needs to removed first and then the upper cover can be removed. The air dam over laps the tabs on the upper cover which are attached directly to the front bumper reinforcement piece. So if the front cover is attached like it was originally you can't remove the upper cover without removing the 4 "bolts" that attach the cover to the bumper. Otherwise you have to remove the cover with the front bumper reinforcement. Which I have done if the nuts are rusted or damaged.

That may not help a ton, but it's late and that's all I can think of right now. I will try and update with more/better information tomorrow.

The air dam should have 4 studs on the front flat part. They are attached to the dam in a rectangular shapped bar. There are matching soles in the metal bumper that lines up with the upper tabs. The washered nuts go in thru the backside of the bumper. The sides are held to the upper part by a metal bracket with 2 studs. The we ends are mounted to the fender extensions by use of 3 studs. Use washers nuts to hold them together.

Initially, I was concerned about where the upper edge of the lower valance tucks into the lower edge of the bumper cover. After looking at the diagram, it looks like I have other problems. Mainly, missing parts. It looks like I'm missing the large flat piece (17626) and the support bar under that (8349). I'll see if I can get a couple pics of what I'm working with.

That part with the big rectangular holes should be attached to the spoiler. It has the studs in it. You will need to unbolt it and reattach it.

I gave my 82gt to a buddy of mine a couple months ago, but it has the complete front bumper and valance intact. I'll have to swing by there and take a look at it to get a better idea of how it goes together.

That's what I figured. Now, I'm thinking I'm missing parts that secure it at the very bottom. The large flat piece, for sure. And it looks like there's another bar of some sort.

I have 8349 & possibly 17626 up in the rafters from my PC parts car. You don't really need them to put on the lower more for splash protection.

    Hi
I would be interested in the 8348 and the 17626. Would you ship to Canada?

Does it not add rigidity to the lower section? Seems like it would be pretty flimsy without it, but I may be wrong.

Nope, I have run without them for years. Mine is pretty dang stiff without them. The big flat sheet is just and plastic.

The lower part of the air dam is hooked to the fog light bar with pt 17c861 That is what ads rigidity to the Air dam.

Ok. I've managed to find all the parts I need besides the 17c861. Would you guys happen to know how I could find the full part# for this? I believe 17c861 is just a partial number. It may help me in my search
Also, if anyone knows of one of these cars being parted out, please let me know. I'm working with a small window here. I go back out of town July 9th for a month and was hoping to get this thing together before I leave. Thx!

Almost finished. A few bugs to work out with some broken/missing fasteners and I still have to install the lower plastic reinforcement piece, but she's in! What a chore!
