So awesome. That has to be one of the nicest Fairmonts out there. If not, THE nicest!

Thanks again !
A little back story on the car
I bought it in the early 80s only because it had a V8 and I had a small boat to tow as my daily driver.
Once the kids came along there was no time for the boat so I started to try to improve the car starting with the horrendous brakes. I bought the Ford motorsports
rear disk brake kit and the rest followed over many years. I never thought the car would be this nice. It was just one small project at a time. They all added up over many years. I guess I was lucky to have purchased an E.S. which I only even realized many years after I purchased it. I see the finished product and can’t believe I did all that. My buddy’s would tease me all the time ( why would anybody restore a fairmont ) well i never started out with that intention it just happened. Now I’m glad I did and am pleased to share it’s unique heritage.

Edsel Ford II as assistant Manager in Australia brought the ES pack Fairmont concept to Australia as a replacement for the GS option Falcons and GXL Fairmonts.
As a tow hitch car, a V8 Ford compact sedan is a real road burner. See how much of your red and black Euro style bahn stormer DNA exists in the overseas Fairmont...
And nice, nice car. Brads salivating right now...keep up the square rigger road burner retro restoration. 302 det werlt!

That's Red! What a knock out! If my car looked that good, I might be motivated to work on it!
1985 GT, Sunroof, 5 Lug, Rear Discs, 01 Graphite Bullets, 88 forged piston shortblock, 2.02/1.60 Alum heads, Weiand Stealth, Holley C950 TBI, BBK Long tubes
Without a doubt the nicest Fairmont ES in the country. Great attention to detail and everything is well placed and beyond clean.
I will copy some details of your car as I continue mine, you have set the bar very high.
1978 Mercury Zephyr boxtop 5.0 EFI T5Z 8.8
1999 Ford Contour 2.5 V6 5 speed
2016 Ford Focus ST 2.0 Ecoboost 6 speed
Most definitely salivating and definitely a benchmark for the rest of us to reach for!
XC, damn you and your way cooler Fords down there. I met some Aussies in Hawaii last week and all I wanted to do was gush about how much cooler the Fords are there.

OrgInalESrestored, and ZephyrEFI, and Mr ukravit.....having owned both the 1981 Mustang and the 1984 XE Falcon version of the Fairmont/Zeph,
I'll trade the better Cross flow or Cleveland engine power for a lighter Windsor V8, sorted out four bar rear axle with its 1964 AMC Rebel shockies and rack and pinion modified strut IFS every time.
Ask racers about sorting a Six link Watts linkage Falcon rear end...its unequal length upper and lower arms made it a Kangaroo Court any time a corner was encountered, and even Group C'd up with 360 mm section 19" Dunlop Racing Slicks and 12" wide BBS wheel's couldn't tame it.
The Jack Talenak/Lee Iacocca style ES package was a huge Pimp out step towards an Executive Sports car, almost like a bigger 1979-1983 Fiat Supermirafiori/ SuperBrava coupe DOHC
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PKQf6C0KTq0
Or a Alfetta Sedan or Guilietta or 75. 1980 Rover 3500 or 760 GLE Turbo Volvo or Saab 900 or 660 V6 Citation or STE Pontiac type car. Or an AMC Renault 18i.
In fact, the ES predated the hot selling Feaugo and Europe only 18 Turbo by 2 years.
Same Euro concept. Your Turbo Fairmont and Zephyr was withdrawn after 1200 or so were made.
It took litterally years of effort for middle American Consumerizm to raise the bar on box sedan 2 and 4 door expectations. The fact that a dangerous 1977-1981 Toyota Mark IIor Cressida sedan early 79-81 Supra XX could take out an owner on an unfamilar road was lost to many Americans who just like the Cruise control, Denso Air Con ,and they didn't give a hoot that the understeering Jap cars of that era could maime and kill. Where was Ralph Nader on the discusting Exective Sports in line six Toyota's? Nowhere man!
Put TRX's on an Aussie Falcon/Fairmont/Fairlane or LTD, and it too became early 70's Jap car unstable with lots of impact harshness over bumps and highway filler strips. On a Fox, any time modern parts or appiontments to the tires or suspensin was added, it bacem very precise, with no impact harshness. The Fox chassis lapped up good gear, and in the comments from a French guy who developed the Good Year Eagle tire was that the Australian Falcon platform was benign, but a quintessetial "lazy mans" car. Peter Robonson jumped ship to Italy in 1987, home of the Alfa Romeo The Fox wasn't ever a lazy mans car, even a 2.3 automatic Fairmont with soft springs and no power steering or brakes was a cut above any GM or Mopar compact those 1978 to 1983 years.
Ford USA was serious about the Fox ES package. Take up of the package was low in both the USA and Australia, way less than 1%. But even today, people notice how focused the package was.
rack and pinion steering and even the old axle tramping four bar live axle was a drag race dream, and the depth of engineering from the team at Dearborn was more than any other.
Love the stuff you have, because Ford had some serious talent.
Just before Edsel Ford II left Australia, he was interviewd by the late David Roberson, an excellent, but very hard nosed Journo.
EFII said till his dying day, Wheels Magazine inferring that the Australian Falcon was a Lemon, and not worth a Car of the Year Award in 1980 was a crying shame.
the 1980 Ford add was "There are times that being a Lemon isnt always a bitter experience"
Your Fairmont and Zephyr ES weren't Lemons....

Thanks for the compliment. The first pictures in my post were fairly recent and none much older than a year or two the car was painted in 02 now repainted after it was hit in April. This picture was taken in April the day it was hit.I’m really excited to get it back maybe next week ! They did such a nice job. And I think I will do a proper photo shoot now that I know people would like to see a Fairmont

Earl.........
WOW ! I guess I’m just used to seeing my car and it’s not that impressive to me. The one thing I did always think was that the whole fox mustang program was begun on the fairmont and my car was one of the original 5.0 Fox platforms. The recognition here has been incredible. I inquired about a photographer already.
I might be able to find a few more to add to a calendar if needed. Keep up the good work and thank you for your time
Look who got caught outside! My son stoped by the body shop and saw the fairmont outside so he snapped a picture of it next to his truck

Well not home yet but the new real leather wrapped wheel has been installed!
Man, I love that ES dash trim. Sucks that mine never had it.

My Buddy’s kid actually sent both dash pieces out and had real aluminum turned parts made to replace the vinyl I’m sure they could make one to fit the gauge package on your car the company that makes them dose trans ams
Too late, I swapped to the '87 dash.
Good to know though!
