I am in the process of getting my 86GT back on the road, after sitting for 5 years, and reached the point where I needed to get the old gas out and clean the tank.

This weekend I dropped and cleaned the fuel tank, and sealed it with RedKote.

No issues dropping the tank, a few bolts at the filler neck, drop the straps and disconnect hoses and wires.

The gas was nasty and brownish muck, starting a vehicle with this old gas in it will clog the injectors and create more problems. This is why it is imperative to drop the tank.

We went ahead and cleaned out the tank and final rinsed with acetone, and let dry overnight. There were a few blobs of brownish muck which appear to be remnants of the ethanol we fished out.

The redkote seals everything and is a really good single stage sealer, easy to work with as well.

I swapped out the fuel pump and screen while I had everything out. The tank sensor looked good, but there was some rust on the outside so brushed on some rust sealant.

Thats about all, all thats left is to bolt it back on.
