Thread: Ignition issue

    Default Ignition issue

Sorry probably a stupid question guys my learning curve with this whole carb and distributor on this 82 gt is kicking my ass. Car started monday having an issue starting, took a few extra cranks. It had sat a few days so I figured maybe it just needed some fuel but she did fire. Tuesday same. Wed a little worse. This morning it wouldnt start. I pulled intake lid and verified fuel was spraying with throttle. I hooked a spark tester up to the wire coming from coil and no spark when cranking until just when you let go of key then you get 1 spark. I tried swapping module with one I know is good and same result. I would assume at this point I have a pick up issue and need a new distributor???? Just looking to see if there is anything else to look for. Cap, rotor, coil were recently replaced.

I would take a look at the ignition switch on the column. They are notorious for falling apart and causing weird problems like this.

I'd look at the ignition switch too. My daughter's '92 Mustang LX 2.3/auto combo had this same problem and when I took the plastic covers off the steering column and wiggled the plug in harness on the switch, it crumbled and fell apart. Once I replaced it the problems went away and they've stayed away for the past 5 years (we're still using the car today).

Yeah I pulled plastics and it seems to be in good condition. I have another one was gonna swap it but mine has rivets holding it in and it was dark so I didn't mess with it. I'll swap it today and go from there
