    Default 79 / 80 Armrests - Do We Have a Source Yet?

I looked through all the older threads (back to 2009) and then searched the usual parts suppliers for 79/80 armrests. None have any that I can find, even FoxResto with their NOS section. It seems everything is '81 - '86 currently. Is there another site that has NOS parts on a shelf, or is it going to be a continuous search on eBay until I find a good set of black parts?

Are they unique to Mustangs or did they re-use Fairmont armrests? I have a pair of black D8EB's sitting here.

I haven't found anything to replace the 79-80 Mustang/Capri arm rest. They are unique to those cars. I had heard of some talk of seeing if Just Dashes could recover them but I have not looked into it myself. I can't imagine that it would be cheap but they do offer custom services.

Mine are peeling up at the corners and the foam underneath isn't stable enough to glue to. I picked a pair of blue door panels a few years ago that had some decent arm rests, but I am always on the lookout for black ones. 40 yo Mustangs are a rare beast in the yards these days.

I was going to have my local interior guy cover mine. he said the only thing would be a stiching would show on the inside which I would be fine with. Might be an option.

The Mustang Cobra II had similar shaped armrest, different flat door panel.
The stitching does show running from the top of pull section then down and back along the bottom.
And looks good. Then they tried to hide seams. Nowadays, you see accented stitching on seats, etc.

When i redo mine, am going to put much more modern solid material or metal under the horiz. arm vinyl.
The vinyl cover cracks in the middle from light elbow pressure. Too soft of foam.
Maybe a thicker vinyl cover like marine.

The early and later model ones look similar shape, wider molded pad and support, fit a flat door panel.
The 79-80 door panel has the molded extension section under the pad to support it.
The door panel pad support section has a horz door lock button hole and pad clips.

Default armrest vinyl split trial repair

Over the years, armrest crack repair has been elusive.
Have two with same damage, same spot. Middle of pad top.
All tapes, sticky back foam, hot melt glue, carpet strip, eventually failed too quickly.
    Armrest is 1979-80 version.

Experimenting today with thin black craft felt to cover ds armrest vinyl splitting.
    black craft felt 8" x 12"
    3M 2 way carpet tape
    scissors

Removed armrest and armrest to panel center most clip. Left the end most clip in place.
Aligned the felt with the back most clip. Wrapped the armrest like a burrito.
Felt edge ends between the armrest and door panel.
Felt is thin enough to follow armrest contour with no buckling.
Cut a slit and reinstalled center clip.

The 8" width covers the damaged middle area and looked better than 12" width.
Ending the wrap behind the armrest and between the panel should help keep it tight.
Carpet tape secures the felt to the vinyl fine.
Felt added a bit of thickness. Clips resisted hand pressure to reinstall armrest clips into their panel holes.
One whack with a rubber hammer seated both clips.
The felt covers the split vinyl quite smoothly.
Being wrapped with felt, the vinyl is not loose anymore along the bottom edge of armrest.
