Thread: steering rack

    Default steering rack

I have a 85 gt that I'm rebuilding and have a question about do I need a replacement steering rack with or without limiters if I go to 16 inch pony wheels. My car has stock suspension and I don't plan on lowering it. I'm not sure if I'm going to run into fender rubbing or other issues. I was told some time ago that ford started offering the 16 inch pony wheel in 1991 and widened the front wheel opening accordingly...........any help would be appreciated....Thanks

I run 16 inch Pony wheels on my 86GT with 245/50-16's. Car is lowered about 3/4", no rubbing anywhere on fenders or liners. At full lock there is rubbing on the control arm, rack limiters are needed.

Limiters were used on the stock set up. They just clip on I believe.

Limiters are only to prevent the wheels from rubbing on the inner wheel wells. You can install if needed or just make sure NOT to turn the wheels hard to either side if you have rubbing.

As stated above virtually all R&P units will have limiters installed since the R&P can be installed in several year models and many different Fox Body vehicles. Good Luck!

Just 1/8” more track width per side is added with SN95 spindle setups. My 17x8 tribar rims with 245/45/17 barely ever rub
