Roland Asch on his 5 liter Mustang did quite well in the 1985 DTM season (DPM 1984 and 1985 = Deutsche Produktionswagen Meisterschaft - German Production Car Championship, DTM from 1986 on - Deutsche Tourenwagen-Meisterschaft ) with two podiums and 4th overall.
Somehow he switched during the '86 season to the more competitive Ford Sierra from Ford Germany and did not attempted on all the races.

1984 during the first year of the than newly introduced DTM (DRM) the foxbody Mustang of Manfred Trint did better with winning 4 races and taking one pole position. I suppose that he could have won the championship if they had not that much reliability problems which led to four DNF's out of 15 races and missing the first race (yes, he was able to beat the armada of those bloody 635 BMWs several times :-) ... no offend to BMW people though ;-) ).

Love seeing vintage 4-eye race cars. Wonder where the car ended up?

ETCC/DTM cars were able to have liberal modifications in the true spirit of European FIA racing. Its a fact that esepcailly the BMW cars were way off the stock production turrets, with almost anything goes, and hence the European Dutch/Belgian and German variants were a very special blend of parts.

Non standard parts gumbles were common, and the very thing that couldn't be done in the hard policed Australasian Australian/New Zealand Group A cars. "You" guys could use any rocker gear, (like Chevy stamped or roller rockers) any mismatch of different year hood and air cleaner combination, any kind of carb, and even if it wasn't listed, as long as the ink was dried on the homologation papers, you got a Capri Zakspeed axle, BMW/Volvo/Ranger or Vauxhall VX490 Getrag 5 speed and a whole raft of roller cam parts which weren't released in the years raced.

To me, the car lookes like it has the earliest 1982 Belmondo Mustang hood and nose section, but the later 1985 plastic valance, each blended together.

Jean Claude Belmondo's son raced it it in similar form.

The DTM logs will verify the chassis number, I'm guessing an 82 or late 81 car which Mike K from Zakspeed farmed out to the willing racers.

The records are hazy on the European machines; Ford was unwilling to have the later EFi 5.0 cars raced, so the carb 2 and 4bbl 5.0's got extensive modifications which made them very special.

Thanks for posting this. The Aussies via Kramer (Don Smith/Barry Seton) who's Black and Abes Babe cars were raced under the PinePak banner have been returned to France for racing, and Ross Palmer two (one of them ex Niedzwietz, and both used by Dick Johnson) have a well documented history; the Euro cars are far harder to lock down in terms of ownership and spec. Due to the need to win, extensive changes were allowed.
