Default 04 Mach 1 refueling issue

Bought an 04 Mach 1 last summer with 170K miles on it and when trying to refuel it wont let me squeeze the gas pump handle all the way. If I do it just shuts the nozzle off like it's full.
I've heard a few different things could be the problem but I'm thinking about starting with the vapor canister behind the left rear tire since that seems like the easiest thing to get to. My question is how will I know if it is actually bad or not? It seems the refueling issue is fairly common on these cars but I get a lot of different possibilities for the solution.

Maybe check the vent line. I know that could cause the pump to keep stopping. With my Lincoln ls, it was a vent valve that caused that issue.

That was my first thought as well.

I've checked the hoses from the filler door and to the vapor canister and didnt see anything that looked kinked or blocked.
Someone suggested I unhook the vapor line from the tank to the canister and see if the problem still exists

There is a check valve at the end of the filler tube. This prevents siphoning of gas but something could sit on it. I found mine laying in the tank.
