    Default Struts/P/S

Can I fit 93 GT struts to a 79, I have a 93 GT that I am parting an it has adjustable struts, also want to change the lower control arms, springs, spindles, and brakes as well. Car has Yukon 5 lug axels and 5 lug front rotors.

Next, is the 93 power steering rack, can it be changed out to the 79.

Plus any other tips, or short cuts for this project...

    Thanks

If you change everything as an assembly, yes. The top of the strut tower was redesigned (it is my understanding anyway) in 1990, so the camber plate may be a bit different. Nothing a little massaging won't cure.

Yes, you can swap everything into your 79 from the 93 GT. I would advise against trying to use the 93 strut top mounts (CC Plates). The CC Plates are 79-89 and 90-93. The 90-93 bolt pattern is very different than the previous years and it will take more than a "massaging" Just use your current setup from the 79, replace as needed with stock replacement parts or buy a quality set of CC Plates such as Maximum Motorsports which is what I would recommend. Good Luck!

On the ps rack, best to use a 93 pump, hoses, if correct. They are a matched set as far as specs go.
Here, matched a new pump and hoses to the rack year, which I changed from 1979 TRW to 1983 Ford Sport.
May have the rack coupler index issue i had. Steering wheel wound up turned 180 using a later year rack.
Rack bushings, tie rods may be different. I used 1979 versions (79 suspension), but use what fits the installed suspension.
Everything is working great. No noise, issues, weirdness.

    Trey,
Thanks for the actual clarification. I knew the plates were different, just not how different.

Glad to help. I thought they couldn't be very different myself for years until I tried to use a set of Maximum CC Plates 79-89 on my 91 GT. Yep! NOT Even close!

    Good luck with your build!

Stay safe -- good jacks and good stands on solid surfaces .......

If you're like me you sometimes forget and forget to say it to the people you like. The rest, I might forget to say it even more often.

I had a boss one time that liked to dive with sharks. Now normally I'd advise against it but in his case I made an exception.

Your 79 steering shaft has no index. You can put the wheel on wherever you like. I did that when I used 94 rack in my 79. You will need an adapter from 79 shaft to newer rack I believe, I did need one on mine

Gonna swap the rear end too? An 8.8 would be an upgrade. Id say its a lot easier to exchange the whole axle then brakes. If you already have an 8.8, you could always keep the old setup as spares.
