    Default Aluminum driveshaft fit in a 4-door Granada?

    Car came from factory with the 4 cyl/4 speed drivetrain. Converting to a SBF and a T-5. I know the body is (I think) 5" longer than the mustang's and that is between the subframes to accommodate the 4-door platform. I really don't want to use the stock DS and would like to use an aluminum one from FMS or something. Are they long enough or will I need to lengthen the yoke or shaft itself? Rear is being converted to an 8.8 from a 95 if that matters.

    Mustang driveshaft will not work. You can use one from a first gen to '01 Explorer V6 4-door 2wd automatic. It's aluminum and the perfect length. You may have to swap yokes from your original driveshaft or a Mustang one.

    CVPI or first-year MKVIII (1993) one-piece shafts can also be used.
    When I had my CVPI shaft shortened to fit my Mustang, I believe they took 5"-6" out (so, you may want to check the CVPI driveshaft length as you may be able to use it as-is).

    So that one should work. I have the old shaft so reusing the yoke is no big deal, and all U-joints will be re-done anyway.

    Actually found one from a 2000 Explorer, 4 door, AOD, V6 for $90 with free shipping. Sweet!

    And funny--- I saw ads for a FRONT driveshaft for a 2wd explorer... Odd...

    Sweet! Yep, they're out there. I was certain I wouldn't find a 2wd in a salvage yard up here, so I bought mine on ebay too.

    I saw most of them going for $130-150, so when I saw this one for $90 I took the plunge and 'bought it now'.
    When I have new U-Joints installed I will have them check it's balance also.

    I just picked up another CVPI aluminum unit today for $42 after tax. It will be used in my girls '78 Fairmont build.

    Shaft arrived yesterday. Set it down next to the one I pulled off the car and they are almost exactly the same length! Sweet!
    Soon it will get new U-joints and balanced. Gotta check the slip yoke end to see it is the same or needs to be swapped on at the same time- same with the end that mates to the 8.8 rear. That looks to be a different bolt pattern, but easy to make it work.

    Well that TOTALLY sucks. Shaft lengths appeared the same but the new shaft is way too long. See pic. Also, the slip yolk would not fit over the output shaft. Perhaps I got sent the wrong shaft from the JY initially. All I know is it's back to the driveline shop tomorrow to spend yet more cash.
    302 block with T5-Z trans. Seems like it should have been good. Oh well. Pics taken with flange flush on rear housing.

    Thought I did. I think I goofed though and had the Explorer slip yoke installed instead of the one that was on the Granada from the SROD.
    At least the rear flange seems to match up.
    Thinking I got the wrong shaft from the JY seller on eBay.

    Actually, I'm sure I didn't because I brought both to the shop at the same time. Not sure I didn't get the wrong shaft -- sure I had the parts (slip yoke and flange) transferred.

    I was an idiot, plain and simple. I thought the yokes were the same on the t5 and SROD because I didn't remember buying a shaft for my 83 hatch build. Guess I did and forgot. It was a long time ago.
    Anyway, new slip yoke and a tape measure tomorrow so they cut it the right length this time.
    I didn't have the t5 yet to try it. If I'd have been smart I would have waited to do the shaft. Sigh.

    It's odd. Even with the Stifflers crossmember - they say to use two spacers. With no spacers I am almost touching the tunnel so I am not using any.
    I will measure for exact shaft length tomorrow so they can make it right this time.
