    Default Tensioner repair

    Are belt tensioners rebuildable?

I know, buy a new one right/ The old style has a bracket that you can easily depress with a pry-bar or crowbar. I don't like the new after market types. When I rebuilt my motor 2 summers ago the only thing I kept from the old build was the tensioner

I found one guy that has a NOS old style tensioner on ebay for $110 but that's a bit too pricey. I'm sure the pulley bearing is whats shot and I know that can be pulled and replaced. but can the tensioners internals be replaced too?

I've seen guys take them apart and flip the spring so they pull up instead of push down.

I always just slipped something between the pulley. Just about anything will work, a long extension, tire iron...
