    Default Stainless Trim Experts Needed

    Hello,

I have stainless windshield, door, 1/4 glass stainless trim in need of restoring and or replacing.

    1. What are the steps/products you have taken to refurb your stainless pieces? Mine are cloudy and dull.

    2. I have access to 1986 black window trim pieces to replace my dented and damaged pieces. Will paint stripper reveal stainless that is workable to look presentable or do I need to source the earlier non-painted trim?

In the end, I am in need of results that exceed driver quality.

    Thanks in advance.

Actually, they are typically anodized aluminum. However I do not own a Foxbody with bright trim so it’s posdible it or some is stainless steel. If it’s milky colored then it’s aluminum. Anodized aluminum is best left to experts in anodized aluminum trim. Make sure it can all be done at one place. Some will straighten and polish but not anodize.

    Jon,

The ones I have reused were in really decent shape but I still polished them. I used some stainless steel polish with so so results. I used 3M compound and polish on them also that did shine things up decently. If yours are UV damaged that may not work for you.

I think Kevin is right on these being aluminum and chromed. Here I have contacted a local industrial coating company for yellow cadmium and zinc plating but I have not asked about chroming. You may want to reach out to that type of company at least for some info.

I am curious also as I need some replacement Chrome pieces for our blue Ghia and nice ones do not seem available for sale.
